Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Has anyone recieved any information about graduation on September 28th?
Mary my son was a little worried about boards but he knew he had an advantage since it was an oral test. That boy can talk his way out of anywhere!!!!!
Nope, widowmaker is almost exactly 1/2 way through Power School. It is also known as RP (reactor principles).
Sorry, NavyMomLG, I have no real idea then. My son isn't quite to that part ... in fact, today is his 50%. So I only reiterated what I learned from other moms before me. I would think that if he did his 100% and still has a month left, then it would mean he is ahead of the curve but then again, what do I know?? Obviously diddly squat!! lol
Penny, that is what I understood too, but I talked to my son on Saturday and he said he had taken his 100% already (of course he didn't say when) and he still has a month left. It didn't sound like he was anticipating the oral boards anytime soon, and he is behind the curve to some degree, but again, no details were provided other than that he isn't too worried and that the information has really clicked and his work is finally making sense.
Penny, It is interesting to me to see that you are from Kirkland. I grew up in Anacortes. We now live close to Boise Idaho. Thanks for the info you sent. My son seems to feel more confident about actually getting through prototype now.
Sounds about right to me Penny.
Rhonda, for Prototype, they have three tests ... off-crew test, which it given about 7-8 weeks into Prototype but before they start on-crew. Once on-crew, at the mid-way point, they are given a 50% test to see how they are doing so far with learning the material. Then, at the end, they are given a 100% test. All of these are written tests that they sit for. Providing they have passed all of that, then about a week or so after the 100%, they are brought before a civilian and a military staff member and do their oral boards. If they pass, they become certified Nuclear Machinist Mates. Hope that helps. If I'm wrong on any part of this, please feel free to correct me.
Anyone have a machinist mate doing the 100% exam? What is it?
