Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Congrats Michimom. That is awesome. Honolulu is amazing. My first husband worked for the airlines so from our honeymoon until I was pregnant with our sailor, we went there every year for our big vacation. Maui is awesome too. I figured to keep going because that was one place I could not drive to. After he passed I lost his flight benefits and have not been back since.
Mom B, my son arrived in Ballston in early March of last year and did not class up until end of May. It was very frustrating but we just paid him a visit there before he started and before the crazy race season started too. He is looking for his 3rd place there and hopes to get a lease that will carry him through November of 13 without having to move again.
Congrats Michimom...my son is on a fast attack too. The USS San Francisco. See you over at submoms.
Today my son called with great news--he received his orders: he'll be on a fast attack sub, the USS North Carolina in Pearl Harbor! His first choice! He is so excited! The only downside is how far away he'll be. Guess we'll just have to suck it up at some point and head on out to Hawaii. Oh, darn. ;)
Elizabeth77 you are correct, once your sailor starts prototype they are not granted any leave. It is straight through until they do their oral boards. Then they might get some leave depending on where they are going next. If they stay for ELT or SPU they normally will get a few days off.
Welcome MomB to our little group.
I don't believe my son was able to take leave while he was in Ballston Spa. Once the program starts up they go straight through.
Mary, Now I am wondering what we will be driving into when we go to visit sailor mid next month. We plan to pick him up and 'go away' from the racing area for some sightseeing of the surrounding area. Mine has not said anything about traffic though. He had off crew exam today.
Hello BS Nuke Moms, its been awhile since I have been on. Sailor Son has just completed his first SPU quals. Said the oral board was harder than the Prototype interview. He still loves the area but is looking to possibly get into a new apartment that has a garage. He also has met a young lady who I really like. They will be back in September for a few days around his 4 day. Can't wait to see him.
Dolphin, congrats on the first course completion with an A.
MariaB. congrats on the new baby.
Take care all and good wishes to all of our young men and women up in BS.
April -- :-D.
