For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Comment by Michimom (MM Nuke Mom) on June 19, 2012 at 7:59pm: Penny, my son (who finished proto and just started ELT last week) is pretty much the same way. He just works it out. He did say he thinks the system is very inefficient, though. It sounds like ELT is pretty similar, so we'll see how much/if he complains as he tries for signatures.

Comment by elizabeth77(USS SAN FRANCISCO) on June 18, 2012 at 6:40pm: My son told me it was easier for him to get sign outs during Proto as he had been there longer. They have a time frame that they want them to be done by so in the beginning it's harder to find someone willing to sign you out on something but the longer you are there the more motivated they are to get your sign offs done. At least that is how it sounded from his perspective.

He didn't complain about it during Proto but now he says there aren't enough staff so it's hard. I told him he might have to be more aggressive and less polite but I don't like that either.

Comment by NonnaB on June 18, 2012 at 9:34am: My son is currently in ELT training and takes his 100% on Wednesday He won't graduate for about 5 more weeks, but interviewed for staff pickup. He won't know what his next plans are for a few more weeks.
