Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Members: 170
Latest Activity: Jan 9, 2019

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Thanks Terry! my Aaron got there tonight and is ready to get looking 1st thing in the morning. it is too bad the other housing fell through.... they were supose to be getting a 4 bedroom house not far from base, they were told that they were first on list - Aaron checked back with the guy several times and was told they were all set... then this past Tue the guy called and said he rented it out to someone else! They got online and found another house, sounded just perfect for them -had a basement apt for the married couple and 3 bedrooms upstairs...but someone from housing went over and looked at it and said itwas in pretty bad shape.
Charlotte Wow lots of changes! hang in there - hugs and prayers sent your way!

Hi Everyone! I haven't been on in a while.... looks like everyone is arriving soon in NY.... Aaron left GC on friday, explored DC today and is now at my inlaws in PA - He hasn't seen that side of the family in many yrs - I'm glad he decided to swing in and see them. He has had 2 housing situations fall through in the past week.... hopefully he will find something soon!

Looking forward to my son being home for a couple weeks and hearing about Ballston Spa. He hasn't started Protoype yet. I too am interested in hearing about Prototype graduation.

Charlotte,

Northway Eleven Complex has apartments..all with garages. The apartments are clean with large rooms. I think they have some three bedrooms. The complex is in Ballston Lake about 20 mins. from the plant, approximately a mile from Exit 11 on I87 (Northway).

My son graduated Power School in GC 3/19 and is off to BS for prototype. I'll be checking here for news of the area from time to time. He found an apartment And is on hold for 2 months.

Hi - Im the .same as Terry - My son Aaron will be there by 4/2 also - he is excited about seeing someplace new....He is wondering about what they have sailors do there while on hold. Does anyone know? He has heard that it is different than GC on hold.

Mia,

There are several ways for enlisted personnel to become officers. Everything depends on eligibility. The most common are STA-21 and USNA. STA-21 selectees attend college full time at a school with a ROTC program. The get paid as an E-5 and get up to $10,000 per annum for tuition. They have three years to complete the program. After graduation they are commissioned as a Naval Officer. The SPU community in BS is small, so, our sons are probably acquainted. My son, PO2 Lee, will be able to give Shane all the information if he is interested in STA-21. My son applied three times for STA-21. He was selected last November. I never served in the Armed Forces.

Is you son considering an Enlisted Commissioning Program? He certainly sounds like a candidate.

That's great that your son got picked up for SPU. My son will be leaving Ballston Spa in April after being there for thirty months. First for prototype, then for SPU. My son is an ET, what rate is your son?
