For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by mtnestr on July 11, 2015 at 4:35pm: Sorry proudmama, I didn't see your question until now. The drive is about 20 hours, which we split into two days. So really, we spent a total of 4 days traveling and only 3 days visiting! We didn't fly because we took an extra vehicle down for our son.

Marianne, I am NOT looking forward to my son going to SERE. Please tell us when he goes so we can keep him in our thoughts and prayers! My son, however, is very excited about it and can't wait for the opportunity! Crazy kids!!! ;)

Comment by mtnestr on July 10, 2015 at 12:51pm: Hold seems like part of life so far for both of our boys in the Navy. He did mention that he'll get to act as a victim/survivor during practice and tests for other classes coming through.

Comment by mtnestr on July 10, 2015 at 9:32am: Jodi, He does not know yet. When we were at graduation, July 2, they were still talking to them about the differences in the helicopters and training. He is undecided about which he prefers....and hasn't been asked yet. I'm not sure how often their requests are able to be honored. He is expecting a month or so or hold at least.

I don't blame you for not wanting to ride in a vehicle for a while ;) Congrats on making it to the RSS graduation. We didn't make it down for our son's graduation but we did go to his FRS graduation which was very nice. Where will you son go now?

Comment by mtnestr on July 8, 2015 at 4:17pm: Returned back home after a LONG trip. We put 2474 miles on our truck. We returned our older sailor back to Mississippi and saw our younger son graduate RSS in P'cola with no major problems. I do not want to get back in a vehicle for a very long time.

What could have been a nightmare sounds like it is just one of those memories to pass on to your kids when your older... "I remember when I....etc." So glad that they are loving their new place! Congrats on finishing the pipeline..Phew! I'm glad he had help from his buddies.. yes. They do seem form strong bonds of friendship that I think will last a lifetime! Yes, my son has made good friends and is enjoying SD. He truly loves the lifestyle!

Melissa- Oh what a wonderful surprise!!! So happy that you were able to visit with your son:) Woot woot!

Marianne-Safe travels to your son. Although my son is not finished with this pipeline yet...I have a daughter who served six years in the army-and it just never got easier. I am happy that both of my military kids have found their own way in this tough and sometimes cruel world.

Comment by Marianne on July 8, 2015 at 4:13am: So it never gets an easier does it??? My sailor just left to go back to Mayport. It was so nice to have him home. Now he is driving his car back so it will be a long 12 hours until I know he is safely back on base.
