Hi, I am new to this group. I have a couple questions. Isn't FRAC the same as FRS? Did they change the name recently. It is my understanding that first the sailoers must pass Naval Aircrew Canidate School (NACCS), which is in Pensacola. Then the go to Rescue Swimmer School (RSS) in Pensacola. Then they go to "A" school in Pensac0la, and thenthey go to Fleet Replacemnt Squadron (FRS) at various locations (usually San Diego or Norfolk). FRS use to be called FRAC if I recall correctly????? Sailors have a high risk of DOR or washing out at any point in this process. My quesiton is this, "If they made it through NACCS, RSS,, and "A" school, what are the chances of them making through FRS (FRAC). Oh, by the way, it seems that some go to SERE school before, during or after FRS (FRAC). My sailoer is now in FRS (FRAC) and has passed all the other schools but he is finding that FRS is hardest of them all. I know they don't get their "wings" until they are done with SERE and FRS. Would the Navy let them get that far and drop them if they flunked a test or does it have to be something worse? Thanks for your answers.

Hi navytwins,
DebbieJ is the woman to talk to, her daughter just completed rescue swim school in the past couple of weeks. It is an extremely tough school, but her daughter must be incredible to have passed it. My daughter is also going rescue swimmer, was supposed to ship in July also, but tore her meniscus playing volleyball this year and lost her contract. She will have to have surgery to repair the meniscus and then start the process all over. There is so much good information on this site, and lost of helpful moms. Most are mom's of sons who have been through the training, so like I said, DebbieJ is the most recent mother of a female graduate. You two should connect.

Debbie, thank you. He really has had it good so far, despite not finishing BUDS. Guess that is why he is enjoying it so much. I'm glad that BUDS didn't work out for him as it led him to the path of RSS.

He got into one of the most coveted squadons, even his FRAC instructors were jealous, or so he says. He goes to HI for 2 months this summer. Boy I tell you he's got it rough...lol. First LV and then to HI. He says, "Things just work out for me Mom." I guess they do, just hope he doesn't get too used to it. At some point in time things are not going to be so smoth for him.

I think your son and his beautiful wife will fare just fine during their time apart. Yeah time has definitely "flown" by....so to speak.

Yes, we have shared alot. And yes they are in different squadrons and it looks like they are now going their separate ways. It sure has been a journey. I can't believe it's been a year already from P'Cola. So much has occurred for them since then. My son is going to go play in the desert for 3 weeks. Gets to stay in LV. How long will your son be deployed? I bet that will be hard on his wife. I am still so impressed by the young man you raised. He is so polite and well spoken, we really enjoyed hanging out with them last October. Good job Mom!

Donna, my son is also in SD. Chris A's son and my son graduated and got their wings the same day last year. It was very exciting for all of us. My son is also still training...seems to be that they will always be in training to further their knowledge or for advancement purposes. He really is enjoying his time in the Navy.

ChrisA. I'm sure happy that everything worked out for the new grandbaby's. Congratulations.

Chris - Oh my gosh, just being nominated is an incredible accomplishment - next go around, right?

Just checked with my son who is in A school and he said RSS is 5 weeks - which I find amusing because that is also 25 days. :o)
