Chris A.- your son is one of the most gracious young men I have ever met. I'm so happy you were able to spend that precious time with him. I was able to skype with my son last night for the first time. Was great to see his face and talk to him like that. What is the "sailor-of-the-quarter" board....do you know? I was just wondering. Sounds like a good thing. Looks like my sailor may come home for a little bit at the end of May for his brothers High School Graduation. Can't wait to see him in person so I can give him a HUGE hug!

Oh dear, my condolences to you Miss Mary and.... hang in there, Debbie. And, yes, on the positive side, CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER!! Woo hoo! A female rescue swimmer - I am impressed! Not that a female couldn't do it - but rather that there are so few of them!

missmary1962, I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep your son, you, and your family in my prayers. Tell your son although it is difficult now it will all be worth it in the end. My son has made it through and is already in the squadrons and loves every minute of it. If your son can keep focused and determined to make it, he will. Just try to keep giving him words of encouragement, positive thoughts can go along way. Let him know that all us Mom's here are pulling for him.

Well, looks like my daughter's navy career is going to have to be put on hold for a while. She has had so much pain while running lately, and although she was trying to run through it, I finally convinced her to get it checked out. After visits to the orthopedic surgeon and an MRI she has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus! (probably from a volleyball injury she sustained last season) She is so upset. Since her ship date was supposed to be in July they said there is no way she can be rescue swimmer ready by then, so they are going to drop her from DEP. However, the good news is that she can restart the process as soon as her knee is rehabbed fully from the surgery. She can go back down to MEPS, get a new physical, wait for waivers on the knee surgery and then get a rescue swimmer contract. It will probably be about 6 months for all that to happen, which of course is killing her. 6 months to an 18 year old just graduating from high school seems like an eternity I'm sure. But to us 'older and wiser' moms we know it's just a drop in the bucket of time. I'm encouraging her to stay the course and go for what she really wants. I'm sure she could take whatever rate comes up as soon as she has the surgery and ship out sooner, but I don't think she would be as happy with her choice. So she is going to continue her workouts (except for the running) until after rehab and then just start over. She really wants rescue swimmer and is willing to wait. I am encouraging her that this is just a test to see her resolve to get what she wants. You certainly have to have the resolve not to quit during the whole rescue swimmer process, so this is good practice for her tenacity. Would appreciate all the prayers we can get for a quick healing and rehab time. Hopefully the rehab time will be short since she is in such good shape (the dr said that would help) and really she can start slowly working her runs back up about 4 weeks after the surgery. It's just frustrating to have to give up her contract and start all over. But it's all in God's hands and His timing... we just have to trust!

Hi Susan! Welcome to the roller coaster ride, LOL.....here's keeping my fingers crossed for a RS contract! I will say though that AV is an extremely fine rate and I firmly believe that what is meant to be will be. All for a reason. But I do understand your son having the desire and for him, I hope it works out for the best. This last minute stuff makes one crazy so hang in there and keep us posted. We're all here for you!
