So today was 2-3 of RSS. Yesterday 10 of 19 people failed...unfortunately he was one of them. He retested today and failed :(. He said he's rolled out into starboard d. I don't know what that means though...He has to go to the progress review board to see if he gets another chance. What does all of this mean?

Well, the countdown is on.........one week from today, my son has RSS graduation ceremony. And I'm STILL keeping my fingers crossed! It has been a tough 4 weeks. Tough for him or for me, you ask? LOL! Uh, both, I think. I do believe it has taken every ounce of physical endurance for him and he's hung in there. He is extremely motivated and says there there is no room for failure. I will feel better when next Thursday comes and goes.

We had a great time down in San Diego and it was well worth the 2 and half hour drive to get there! The female rescue swimmer we met is actually not in a squadron right now, but she is the highest ranking female rescue swimmer in the Navy and is working as a SAR evaluator for all the squadrons. She took us around to the different squadrons, we got to see the helo's (all 3 platforms) and then went back to her office where we met with the top rescue swimmer in the entire Navy. He was very honest with us, told Kelsey what to expect, good and bad, and then told us that if we needed anything to give him a call. Everyone in the office was so helpful and informative, and even if they didn't have the answer to our question, they got on the phone and got the answer for us.
It encouraged Kelsey, but at the same time, scared her. She came home and decided to start working out even twice as hard as she has been. She absolutely wants this more than anything I've ever seen her want.
So, all in all it was a very profitable visit and we met some of the best and nicest men and women in the Navy!

The Navy put us in contact with a female rescue swimmer down in San Diego and tomorrow we get to go meet her. She's gonna talk with my daughter, show us around the shop, and let us meet some other rescue swimmers. Kelsey's pretty excited about it, I know she wants this job more than anything right now. Maybe we'll meet one of your sons, I think a few are stationed in San Diego, right? It will be a fun day to be on the base and see the helo's in action. We can't wait.

Eeeek, just when I think I understand the schedule I find I don't. After RSS in Pensacola, I thought they go to San Diego or Norfolk for FRAC......Mary Jo, Chris or Kari, are you there?

Hello Miss Mary and welcome! Yes, there are some great Moms on this forum...it's a fine place to ask questions and to share.

I wish I could say that J moved pretty fast......he was one of the LAST in his division from PIR to class up. He arrived September 9th and started RSS on January 25. And the guys that classed up before him, they started classing up about 3 weeks before him. I don't want to be discouraging on this issue because there are always obviously exceptions; however, it's also nice to be prepared in the event the opposite happens. There wasn't anything that could be thought of that put him in the back of the queue to begin. It is what it is. And as Alaina said, J just "went with the flow." He loves being in Pensacola and was getting a paycheck so he knew his time would come. :o)

Alaina, hello, yes, yesterday (Monday) was the first day of RSS for J. He said the day was "awesome" which was a word I've never heard from him so it must've been a great first day. He also said that today (Tuesday) was to be more difficult so I can't wait to talk (text) with him tonight.

I found out that our sons are roommates! J said that B is a great guy. Did you hear if B started yesterday?

Thank you Msvines. You're right...have faith and that's a great comfort to know. I just need reminding from time to time and this is why I love this website!

Ahhh, just saw your posting Beth and what a generous, kind offer! It's so wonderful how we, as Mothers, support all of our Navy children and it is comfort to me knowing that you are so close in the event something is needed. Thank you so much for offering that! :o)

Okay, after taking a deep breath, I will inform you that my son starts RSS, finally, TOMORROW. He is so excited and very ready to begin his journey on this path. I, of course, as a Mother worry.........can't say that I don't have confidence in him cuz I do...but I still worry. Jeez. But I don't tell him this. I know this RSS time is where a lot of them either make it or don't. I'll keep you guys posted! ~Kerry
