This is a cool video on the navy website. I think it's new, but if not, I think it's worth watching. Shows what the kids do... unfortunately they didn't show any women! There are 19 women rescue swimmers... they should highlight them too!

Kari, I am so sorry that you had to get even the shaken phone call. It does remind us all the dangers that our kids face in this job. Please know that I am sending you all my prayers of comfort. I wish I knew what happened, but Shawn is here in TN with me (thank god) so not sure he can find out. Can you email me privately and tell me what happened? Take care Kari and know that I am thinking about you.

Chris, I love that picture of Greg. How great he looks and happy!!! My sailor comes home next Thursday...I'm very excited! I know I just saw him in October but Christmas just doesn't start for me until Shawn gets home. Going to go get a tree this weekend but saving the decorating til he gets home. Is Greg and Jill coming home for Christmas? I hope so.

Thank you Beth......I was also horrified - in shock at myself. if someone had asked me awhile back if I'd ever have trouble recognizing my son, I'd have said "heck no! Never!" Well, never say never. Yes, our guys are tough. I'm very proud of the time and effort my son has put into everything he's ever done. He's not where a lot of your guys are - not yet - he just started school. I'm impressed by the amount of dedication these guys commit to in order to achieve what they want. And, it isn't just mental as some things are in life. Our guys have to include the physical along with it. Doubly impressive!

Okay, maybeeeeeee I'm just a little crazy. :o) I'm studying photo's of him now so I'll know it's him at the airport when he comes in for Christmas..........

It actually is a little disconcerting to me that I don't recognize my own son....I'm sure I'll get used to it. :o)

Hi guys - my son finally classed up! We've been teasing him telling him that we were beginning to think that he was at a resort on the beach in Pensacola, lol! With all due sincerity though, I will say he has been busy with watches and with PT. Lots of PT. He's in the best shape I've ever seen.......I recently saw a photo that was on one of friend's pages. I kept looking at it and thinking... . .. "well, that kinda looks like him but I'm not sure." I sent him a text and it WAS him.....geez.

He thinks I'm losing my mind.....after all, I didn't recognize him at PIR outside the nex.....he was yelling "Mom MOM!" I just smiled at him thinking "ohhhh he must think I look like his Mom" and kept on walking by. Totally freaked him out. I just hope I know it's him when he comes home for Christmas, YIPPEE!!!! Have the sign ready and all!
(I really am not crazy....he just has never been in this kind of physical shape his entire life. And he was in good shape when he left for boot camp. You should SEE him now!)

Hi Linda.....was wondering where you guys were! I was wondering.....if he's dropped from ARS due to knee problems - would he be medically eligible for a Seal contract? I mean, why wouldn't they just allow him time for his knees to heal and then resume with ARS? Why drop the ARS contract?

With regard to ARS vs Seal program, I would think that the Seal program would be even more physically ardous so would the Navy look at the change in contract as going from the "frying pan into the fire?" Especially in light of the fact that the knee problem was the reason the ARS contract was dropped?

I understand he settled for a ARS contract when all along he wanted a Seal contract.....I hope ultimately he finds what's best for him. Best wishes!

Hi all, Shawn called last night and he also made Petty Officer 2nd Class!! He was soooo excited, I could hear it in his voice. Guess he took the test 2 months ago, and finally got word yesterday that he passed. Whoo hooo!!! We are a proud bunch here aren't we!!
