My son's PIR is Sept 3 and I'm thinking ahead.............isn't there a wait time for school to start in Pennsacola? What do they do during this wait time?

Kari, oh my gosh, I'm so proud of him for doing this! I know I'm his Mom but he truly is an exceptional young man - he's been this way since the day he was born - he's always been a delight in our family's lives. For months, he has listened to me tell him everything I read that the Mom's of the rescue swimmers post on here and he has even sat down to read your postings as he wants to be his best at this.

His PIR is Sept. 3 so we get an extra day of Liberty with him AND my birthday is on Labor Day so it will be an early birthday present for me - yay! Thank you so much for contacting him - I know it had to be an awesome surprise for him to hear from one of the Moms whose pictures he has seen and whose words he's been listening to. Mmmmwwwaaaa!

Hey Chris, I spoke to Shawn and he was at Greg's for a barbeque the other night. I believe it was Sunday. I 'm really glad that Shawn has some great friends to hang with. He met Jill, said she was real nice. Other than that, my son doesn't talk much. But I do know that he is loving every minute of it.....the surfing, flying, he sounds like he's in heaven.

Yes, I'm sure she will. If the guys can do it, the girls can do it too!
Comment by Jill (ATO Mom) on July 17, 2009 at 2:51pm
Well, if the boys are doing it, then Kelsey will want to do it :-) I better get her a surfboard!
Comment by Christi on July 17, 2009 at 2:47pm
No, not a requirement. The boys just like to go surfing. My son has now learned to surf and now has his own surfboard.

Is surfing a requirement for rescue swimmers??? LOL My daughter would much rather waterski and wakeboard! Grew up around lakes, not waves :-)

Yes Kari, Thank for for always being a wealth of information. It's greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the great information. God bless Wikipedia! Again, I really like that they are toughening up... our recruiter was telling us just today that they used to just slap you on the wrist if you got a DUI while in the Navy.. .now you are out! Good job Navy.
