Hi! I was wondering if anyone would know if my daughter would be leaving for school right after Boot Camp, or will she have that weekend off?

When is her PIR?  In my short experience they only time they get the weekend off is if there's a holiday that weekend.  My daughter shipped out the next morning at 2:00 am to her A school.  We got to spend the day with her Friday and then see her at the airport on Saturday.  I believe the folks that stay at Great Lakes for A school onlyl have a few hours.  I guess the time you get is dependent on where she's going, and when her PIR is.

They did play a trick on my daughter and tell her that she had to be back to stand watch at 4:00.  They didn't tell her it was a joke until we'd left the base.  It did cut into our time with her - you may want to be aware that this happens.

Hi, JayDee659! My daughters PIR is 1/29/16! Then she goes to school in Texas! I was trying to decide what day I should fly in at, & how many days I should stay? I need to get things worked out, cause I will be leaving her siblings behind at home for that time! I was told by a friend that there is a dinner for the family's on the night before! Would you know if the recruits will be at this dinner?
i think that the dinner she's referring to is Sarge's Meet & Greet. It's a lot of fun and he has some good information. You need to RSVP for it if you haven't done so. No the recruits are not there. The first time you'll see your sailor is Friday after PIR. Along those lines I'd recommend not following Sarge's advice to sit in the balcony. Sit as high as you can on the main level. You'll get to your sailor faster that way. I sat in the balcony and it took us forever to get down to the main floor. We got there on Thursday early afternoon and then left Saturday mid-day. You will most likely have your sailor all of Saturday depending on when she ships out. My gal got to the airort at 2:00 am and flew out at 6:30 am. We got to see her but there wasn't much time.
Thank You very much for all your help!
