My daughter will be leaving soon for bootcamp.  Will they do a pap test while she is at bootcamp? Her last pap smear was done about 7 months ago.  She is not taking birth control and says she does not want them while she is in boot camp.  Mom wants to make sure she continues to have her annual exams.

If her last pap was over 6 months before she gets to boot camp, she will get one when she gets there.  It's routine for females.  They will push the Premivera (spelling?) shots, but don't take them. It can mess their system up and makes them gain weight and get moody.
Are you taling about Depo-Provera shots? I am a nurse and have never liked those shots. There are other much better options these days that have lower doses of hormones that are equally as effective without the major side effects.
Good question Bethsmom. I am under the impression that they can't be on anything unless they have a prior dr note which had to be declared prior to signing up. Every week or so, my daughter has to answer questions regarding any changes in her health. She won't be on anything then. However, I am assuming that annual check ups are allowed...just not sure if they get the full gyn-ob check up during the BC phase. I'd like to know that as well.

my understanding is that all female recruits will get a pap and prescribed BC once they arrive to boot camp.

My daughter leaves one week from today.

So our daughters HAVE to be on birth control while serving in the Navy?? If so, do they not have a choice regarding their own personal health history?? Now I am getting concerned...
My daughter left for BC on 6/22/11 she didn't get a pap she is 20 and still a virgin so they didn't do one. I do know that she got prescribed Birth control. She choose to use it. Hope this helps.
BC pills are not pushed on them they ask if they want them. My daughter declined as they make her to moody. She is not sexually active so there is no chance of pregnancy. They will do a pap and offer BC pills or the shot but they have a choice.
Whew! Thanks for information. That makes me feel a lot better.
Thanks for all the information.
