I dropped her off at the recruiting office and managed to get out the door without breaking down. I told her this morning that while many of her peers are out partying, not studying in college, and otherwise messing around, she is going to serve her country. I am very proud of her.

megsmom,

This is a difficult time for you for sure.  Suddenly they are gone from the nest and other than the I"m here call (which some Moms never get) you won't hear from her for a few weeks.  That sudden loss of communication and not know what she's doing or how she's doing is very hard on us moms!!!!!  Let the wonderful moms on the group page help support you.  Some of them just went through that stage and now are gearing up for graduation!!  They understand - - we've all been there!!!  Next week you should be able to contact her recruiter and get her address.  You can start writing her encouraging letters.  She can start getting mail right away but won't have time to write back until the 2nd or 3rd week, depending on how her entire ship is doing.  Hang in there - - - cyber hugs to you {{{ . . }}}!!

Megsmom,

Don't worry! It is hard but not impossible. You will get through this. Your daughter will get through it, too. Go easy on yourself.

Note Anna's comment to Caitsmamma above, btw. You might want to change your screen name to protect your daughter's anonymity while she's in training, esp. boot camp. Some of the RDCs check this site for information they can use to embarrass recruits. You might want to change your picture too if it is of your daughter. Keep visiting this site and posting your thoughts and feelings. We all help each other through this difficult stage of our children's lives. But oh my, are we not very proud of them? Hooyah!
