Angela,

Once they get into A school they have to go through phases where they earn privileges such as wearing civilian clothes, going off base and then getting extended liberties on weekends.  Much depends on how her A school run things and she will be able to tell you more as she goes along.  My daughter went to Pensacola also, what A school is your daughter going to?

Angela,

So happy she is doing well.  Yes, unfortunately that weekend of PIR goes so quickly and we just never have as much time as we want!!!  But after her A school she should have some leave to come home before her first duty station.  Does she know what A school she will be going to?

My sailors are doing well.  Tomorrow my sailor son takes the Chief Petty Officer exam.  Say a prayer for him!!!!!

Oleander,

What a scary experience tho.  I know they always train for things like that and they know what they have to do, but it is still stressful.  I'm glad everything worked out well for the crew.

roliesmom,

100 years ago, I was the second female to be rated as an OS!!  The first girl got it 3 months before me.  The uniform shop did not even have the rating badge for our female uniform so I had to buy one that was close to OS and embroider my own OS badge.  The first time I got to go to an NEX after my son enlisted, I bought an OS rating badge for the female uniform!!!!

JayDee,

What a cool idea, and very fitting!!!!

Harley,

Great to see you!!!!  I'll be sending you a personal welcome message on your page!!!  I hear those painting parties can be quite fun and they seem to have in several places now.  I'm glad she had a good time!!!!  How much longer will she be in A school?

Angela,

Good to see you also!!  How is your daughter doing?

Hi Harley I don't see my daughter but she's in GC in A school as an MM.

Hi-I am new to this group!  My daughter is at GC for A school as a NUKE ET.  She seems to love it.  She said there is ton of work, but she seems happy and good to go!  My profile pic is one she texted me from just before Christmas.  They have group things for them to do...they all went to a "painting with a twist" party and then to dinner.  Thought y'all might want to see if your sailor was in this pic if she is in the NUKE pipeline!

Roliesmom I had a similar experience. My daughter said Nuke and all I saw was info that seemed "harmless". Then she announced that she wanted to be an MM and get to actually work with the equipment. She's really in a male dominated field now! Strong girls. I got her a Rosie the Riveter tervis tumbler for Christmas. My mom worked in a factory in Detroit during WWII with that lady. Seemed fitting.

They are amazing and it is very humbling. I remember when my sailor signed up, she first was going in as an OS (watching radar) a very safe job for mama to deal with, lol. But no signature on her paperwork sent her back to MEPS and an opportunity to sign up for a new job that lead her to Engineman. She likes all the hands on work and everything that come with it. It was surreal when she was home in August and she showed us how they are to brace for impact. "There's not much you can do," she said. "Amazing," I thought. They all have been trained very well. When crisis occurs, that's when they're at their best. Sure, I'll still worry but now there's a calmness I didn't have before. My heart and prayers go out to all our brave daughters and sons, may God keep them safe.

That's great! I'm watching Quincy in TV while I work from home. They're out there doing their thing so we can do ours. It's humbling.

Oleander that's scary. I'm thankful that it turned out to be nothing and that they were able to clear it. I'm sure it was tense. Our children are amazing!

Isn't it amazing where life takes us, then back again for another reason? Our marching band wasn't great when I was in it (lots of reasons starting with the director). My daughters senior year they placed 4th in State and made finalist in Bands of America. Band kids have lots of dedication which serves them well later in life. Sounds like our kids prove this.
