Thank you Anna! It is very hard for me especially her starting out with missing a birthday and Christmas!  You must be a very proud mom, but I so do get the empty nester comment!!  It totally stinks being all alone!! coming home to a quiet house with no one to speak to!  Then to boot you call people, they don't answer you, but send a text instead!!  The silence is killing me!!!

Hello everyone!!!  Just checking in real quick!!  Made it safely to son's place in PA and he was able to take this Friday off from his new job so he got in late last night!!!  So glad we got the chance to see him before we leave tomorrow for State College!!  Loving spending time with the granddaughter even tho' she is very shy!!!!

Jess'sMom,

My heart breaks for you as I read your posts and remember what those months were like when my youngest daughter went into the Navy right out of high school.  Two years later her twin sister enlisted into a future officer program.  She finished college and went to OCS.  She is now out in Oklahoma.  Tomorrow I see my veteran daughter who got out after her 4 years and used her GI Bill to get her degree from Penn State.  Her graduation is this Saturday and I will be there to watch it!!  My Sailor Son has been in over 10 years and is making the Navy his long term career!!!  Each time one of them left, they took a piece of my heart.  I am so proud of all my kids but I realize I don't care for this empty nest nonsense!!!  Ideally I would live 4 or 5 hours away from each kid so I could visit much more often!!!  (Not sure they would like this but who's asking them!!!!)  Hang in there Mom, bootcamp won't last forever, but just know you have lots of support here.

bbcregular,

So wonderful to hear from you!!!  I am happy your girl is doing well!!  Enjoy your visit with her!!!  Yes, we are so proud of our Navy Daughters!!!

MomP,

So wonderful to hear from you also!!  How long will you be in DC?  Enjoy your visit!!!  At least we have some nice weather in this part of the country right now!!!  I'm sure it won't last but I can't complain that there isn't tons of snow to deal with right now!!!!

hellraiser,

I hope your girl has a safe trip to P'Cola and enjoys her time there.  Tell her she has to visit Perdido Key!!  It is so beautiful!!!

Hello JayDee and Jean!!  Hope all is well with you and yours!!

Gotta run!!!  Granddaughter is up from her nap!!!  Gotta go play!!!

Good afternoon all.  Welcome new Moms. Thank you seasoned Moms for all the information.  I am not a chatty person on social media but do not shut up in person ;-)  I have good news.  I meet my daughter at the airport tomorrow 6:00am!  My first hug since July PIR.  She has had ups and downs at DLI but really loves the hard work.  She says she has found her people.  That is comforting for this Mom.  I am praying for comfort for all that will not be with their daughters this Christmas season.  I know our time is coming and am taking the advise of the Moms here and will be making memories. May God give us peace and comfort knowing that He is in control and our daughters belong to Him.  So proud of our Navy daughters.

Hellraiser, sorry to hear that your daughter had such a bad experience!  She is a strong girl but went through a lot of BS in high school, I thought it would have ended with her graduation!  I hope her experience will be better.  Jess is my youngest and being in Chicago the end of January, I'm sure we will not want to venture out much.

Jess'mom I'm with ya now lol. My daughter was in the MAA program but unfortunately she was dropped from it. Long story short tell you daughter to choose who she makes friends there with wisely. The Program there is hell, some of them treat you like trash, just tell her to keep her head up and study study study!! Lackland is a pretty nice base, Very huge. She will have to walk alot. 18 hours b4 my daughter was scheduled to graduate One Sailor took 22 other Sailors down for nonsense! It was a nitemare! My Sailor is now going Airmen undes and will be working the Flight deck on the USS Eisenhower til she can strike a New Rate. Weather Permitting there is a little park walking distance from the hotel, We went there for a lil bit to let the younger kids play and to take some pics!

JessMom - I was a mess until I got the first call, then I was a mess afterwards.  She only got to call us 3 times while at boot camp but I kept an open letter on my computer desk top and added to it daily.  She will have so much to tell you. We did go to the airport with our sailor, in fact my husband ended up flying with her to Atlanta as he was on his way out for work.  I will say that the airport was a rush for us as she flew out early so there was only an hour or so to spend.  Now that she's in A school she calls and texts regularly.  It's so nice.  I know that there will come a time when she cannot do that so I'm enjoying it now while I can.  Hang in there for now.  No news is good news :)

Hellraiser, her PIR is 1/29; and there are only 3 invited to it.  So it will be me, my ex and my mom attending it and I am leaving the rest at Navy Lodge. (we booked 2 rooms, one being the family suite so that we can just hang there,  I told me other kids that we wont leave the lodge as I want to spend as much time with her as I can)  They agree'd.  We will order pizza's (heard Chicago was known for it) and just be together.  She signed up for MAA but her goal is to be AIRR.

Jess'Mom keep in mind there will only be 3-4 people allowed at PIR. Depends on how many Divisions there are and how many Sailors are graduating. Since she will be leaving for San Antonio you will have til about 7pm with her. We went to Gurnee Mills mall and walked around. Grabbed lunch then went back to the hotel and visited for a bit. Once you find out her for sure PIR date call the Navy lodge in Great lakes an book as they fill up fast. We wrote on a index card on the last letter we sent asking her to write down her flight info and time so we had it. She ended up having a afternoon flight so we didnt get to the airport til about 8am. she got there at 1am but went and took a nap at the USO. Then texted us at 6am and said to get there lol. Plan to Attend Sarges meet in Greet the day b4. Its full of info. and you meet alot of new People. They guy does it himself, Hes not apart of the PIR. Hes an actual retied Army Vet. Who owns a taxi service and makes sure our Sailors and there family are taken care of. Im only 2 1/2 hours away from San Antonio so if for some reason she needed someone or Something please dont hesitate to ask. WHat is her Rate (job)?

Morning everyone. I haven't been on in a while, but read all the posts. Tears, smiles, hugs and prayers through it all. We are on our way to DC for an early Christmas with our daughter. Last time for DC Christmas but she's reupping so unsure where this Santa will be heading next. Has long has they're happy and enjoy doing what they do. I say my prayers and I'm so proud of what she does.
Hope everyone has a great day.
