Pat,
Yes, it was beautiful this morning. From my living room I look out over a parking lot and trees. At least the trees were really pretty!!! I just hope DC doesn't get slammed again!!!
Watching a little olympics myself!!!

JAS,
Yes, you will warm this summer!! I just peeked where you're from - hubby and I lived in San Diego when we were both in the Navy. Hubby owned land in Apple Valley - you're pretty close to that aren't you?

Catherine,
Really sorry your daughter has had to put up with so much nonsense trying to get herself where she needs to be. It's sad - and sometimes we think it just the lowly enlisted folks that get the run around but even knowing that officers have some of the same problems, and attitudes, just doesn't make sense. As parents I think we want to hold the military to a higher standard of getting things done!!! I hope she is successful in getting the leave time she was forced to take back on the books!!!

I woke up this morning with big, white fuffy snow flakes falling!! It was covering the grass and trees and cars in the parking lot, but not sticking to the roads. It made the trees looks so pretty - then within two hours it was all gone!!! It's very windy outside and the wind is cold!! Hope all of you in the path of the nor'eastern don't get hit too bad!!

DC,
I'm so sorry V is dealing with the fallout when other people don't do follow through. Paperwork problems have messed with my son a time or two in his career. It really stinks that now she has to take the exam and that will interfere with her window for leave.
At least she can vent to you!! Sometimes that all you can do.

It looks like V. won't get leave and she is so upset. When she was in P'cola they were supposed to do paper work so she could become E4 based on grades, etc. They started the paperwork but did not finish it. Now she must take the exam and that will keep her from taking leave before deploying. Major melt down this evening. The sad part is that they have been brain washing her for weeks telling her she won't pass, "no one does when a student." So she devoted time learning her plane. She would as soon pass up the exam but is required to take it, thus no time for leave. I keep telling her that, alas, it is not only in the military that one can run into petty rules. I'm not sure she believes me. As I tell DH, sometimes they just have to vent and get emotions out. Guess females are different from males.

V. did debate on waiting on getting a computer but decided not to do it.

I have a friend who lives in Japan and I don't believe he has a car. He told me he and his family take a train all the time. When we lived in Ireland, we didn't have a car. Good old feet and public transportation did us well most of the time.

Catherine,
I'm with Pat - hang in there!!! It's never easy but we do get through it!! My nephew was stationed over there for a couple years and he enjoyed it. Of course I'm sure it will different for your daughter, but I pray she has an easy-going time over there.

I appreciate you being here also!! You have been such a help to me in the past. I'm glad we are all here for each other!!!

Pat,
What's up with you this evening?

Pat,
I'd have to have a couple boxes of hankies. That's why I haven't been able to do it yet - still too painful. I'm just shocked that she kept all those letters!!!!
Yes, we are spoiled!!! But I'm glad about that!!!

Good Afternoon all!!

Wow some great news here today!!
Blondie,
So happy to hear about your girl coming home. Don't worry - my lips are sealed - I'll never tell!!!! Just keep us posted as well as you can.

DC,
Sometimes I don't know how I'd handle the separation if it weren't for the technology these days. I love being able to skype with my girl and just to keep in touch even by facebook. I get to see some beautiful pictures that way!!! After my mom died my sister was going through her stuff and found out she kept every letter I wrote her back when I was in the Navy!!! Sis gave them to me and one of these days I'll sit down and read them!! And I know how difficult it is to get around there in WA without a car. Where is V and how long will she be there?? My daughter is there at Bangor and lives in Silverdale. She had to go out and get a used car because it just got too hard to get a dependable ride sometimes!!!

Hope everyone else is having a good day - cold and rainy here now - temps are supposed to drop and we might get snow tonight!! NavyMom, are you sure spring is coming???
Stay warm Pat!!!

Good morning!

Blondie, great news on the impending visit from your Sailor. I know that has to be exciting.

I am hoping that V. will have a chance to take leave before she heads out to Japan. For her it is hard .. Dad in S. Cal., Mom in S. FL and me in Maine, and she is in WA. Talk about the four corners of the country. I helped her order a laptop Monday. She went to Best Buy and decided that a PC would do ... she really wanted a MAC. The bank turned down her debit card. She was mortified. It turned out that the bank was concerned that it had been stolen. Also she has no car so has to depend on the good will of others to give her a ride. She always contributes for gas, which has surprised her friends. Anyway maybe it was her good angel looking out for her. She thought the MAC would be much too expensive. It turned out I could order it and it was only a couple hundred more. So in a couple days she should have the laptop. Then she needs go to an Internet cafe and get on line. We can try out Skype and iChat. What fun!

Tomorrow I get a CPAP machine (one of those breathing machines worn while sleeping). I have mixed feelings about it but then I have found out that my sleep apnea may actually be the cause of some of my medical problems, e. g. arrhythmia. I wonder if they will clear up if I use it. Well at least if they get no worse, I'll be content.

Enjoy your day!
