Wow - so much has been going on with everyone this weekend. I started working and it's amazing how much of my time it takes up. Not the work so much, but all the catching up on other stuff I have to do.

Lisa,
I am so glad you decided to go ahead and mail your letters. Mail is so important to the recruits in bc and maybe this will soften her heart towards you and help on the path of having a good relationship again. Please try to post when ever you can - we are all here for you and this is a good place to vent.

Pat,
What can I say that hasn't been said by the other moms. I am so sorry. I wish I had the power to make this all better for Jenn. Keeping her in my prayers.

I am so sad to hear about Mimi's daughter. If you are still checking in Mimi, I wish all the best to you and your daugther. Please come back and visit when it isn't so painful for you!!
Good to hear from everyone else - you moms are all so special to me - I hope you all know that.
Love to you all!!!

Yesterday my husband was under the weather with sinus trouble. Food did not sound good so I made a pot of potato soup. It tasted great and satisfied him. Unfortunately I had to have a snack before I went to bed. LOL

Pat, A hot toddy might taste good! Yesterday it was really damp and chilly in the house. I eyed the wood stove and thought about starting a fire. I resisted.. I'll tell you a story about hot toddies. When I was a grad student my office mate and I shared an office that was on the north side of the building. It would really get cold ... it was in Nebraska and when the wind blew, which it usually did, brr! One morning we began to discuss how good a hot toddy would taste. When I returned from lunch, there was this thermos sitting on my desk. I opened it up and immediately the office smelled like a distillery. I grabbed the door and quickly shut it. I could just see some faculty member coming by, smelling the office and kicking us out of the program. For me it would have meant the end of a full time research job as well as graduate school.

Marianne, your daughter is wise to not try to keep a long distance relationship going, especially since it obviously does not mean enough to her to work on it.

Reaineegal, I am glad that Shai has a doctor's ear. I am sorry that she is going through so much. Recently I was in the chemo infusion room and there was a lady there with an autoimmune disease. She was having some sort of drug infused. I don't think it was "chemo" but she said she did have a heavy duty drug a few years ago. It certainly sounded like a chemo drug given the side effects. I'm not sure when a drug is chemo and when it is not. I would think drugs are chemicals but some are stronger than others and have more side effects.

Many years ago my husband had a secretary who was dealing with lupus. When she was first diagnosed, she was quite sick. Eventually, the doctors got it under control and since then she has led a productive life. She does have to take care of herself. But that was over 35 years ago. I hope Shai soon gets things under control so she can move on with her life.

While Shai is considering what to do next, please advise her to explore programs that are available to people with "disabilities." Sometimes there are some that will pay to get her trained in a field she can do. If there is one, she might as well take advantage of it. I have no clue where she would look but I have known people who have gone to college on disability programs. If she is not interested in college, there may be some type of vo-tech program that would give her a good skill she can do.

Joanne I am so sorry for the cheap shot. but I'm still not roting for the Sox.
Pat- as far as the chili I am a plan Jane, so not spicey and we don't drink beer around here. I am more of a wine person. Funny thing is the only beer that was in the house belonged to my recruit. She won't be needing it for about 8 months.

This is the point where I say woohoo. At least for the team that is beating the Red Sox. We the Angel faithful are thrilled with those slumps just before playoff time.
Sent my own card to Lisa's daughter, and hope to get a reply too. I have been talking to her on FB for the past few months. Hope it helps. Love ya, Lisa
The weather has turned nice and blustery here and am planning Turkey chile and cornbread for dinner. I ;ove it when it actually feels like a change in seasons.

Mimi, Many hugs for both you and your daughter. How wise you were to get her the help she needs. Remember "when one door closes, another one opens." The key is to be looking for it. I do understand that it is painful for you to be here right now but please know that you are always welcome.

Lisa, I so wish you did not have to go through this. I know it hurts. I agree with Pat. It is a good idea to send the letters. Even if your daughter does not respond, she has to recognize that you do care. In the grand scheme of things this may help. She may brush it off now but deep down it can make a difference. I hope that venting has helped you rid yourself from some of the hurt. It is doubly hurtful for you right now because of your mom's birthday. Special days for deceased loved ones is always hard. It is so good for your father that you are there for him, even if it is difficult for you. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, Joanne. Good to see that you made it on today. We are having a very rainy, dreary day here today. How is weather in the Boston area?

JM, I would say give Puffy a hug from me but that might hurt. Hope the mailman brings a letter on Monday!!

Puffy is bummed. No official letter today from his girl. That includes her parents too. Now a long 2 day wait before we stalk the mailman once again.

Pat, I love Jenn's attitude! I understand her desire to get an answer and admire her willingness to do what it takes to get one. Please, though, encourage her to insist on sufficient sedative to make it not such a miserable experience. I am also glad that you got a nap. Prayers are with you both.

Joanne, look over at the column to the right. You will see the calendar and right above it, there is a badge. It has your profile picture and says, "I'm a member of Navy For Moms ..." When you click on "Get Badge," it will allow you to post it somewhere, including Facebook. I clicked on it, thinking I could print it out. Innocently, I put it on Facebook. That creates a link to your N4M page. Initially, I didn't care so I left it there. I have since removed it from FB.

Raineegal, I am so sorry to learn that Shai is having such a painful, difficult time.I truly do not understand the doctors not doing something to give her relief. I am not surprised about the long time that it is taking to separate her from the Navy. From what I have read in other places, this is typical. That being said there is no reason to make life unbearable for her while she is waiting. Look for the Great Lakes A School Q&A group. The moderator of that group is William and he is one of the counselors at GL A School. He may be able to find out some information for you or help you contact the appropriate person. I have seen him do this in the past. I have not ever seen the separation process speed up, however. Many hugs and prayers.

Pat, I hope that you find Jenn is feeling better. It disturbs me to think that she may have to have more fluid drawn off. If she does, she MUST get something that will help with this process. I know many who have had similar experiences with bone marrow biopsies. Some doctors/nurses are so callous whereas others are so caring. My oncologist takes pride in making it painless ... thank goodness. Many of these patients insist upon being put into la-la land before a biopsy is taken. Jenn deserves this and not to be forced to endure it!!

Blondie, many thanks for bringing that security risk to our attention. If you watch the video, the announcer also brings up the risk associated with using the same user ID on different social networking sites. I have gone into mine and changed it where I can. Facebook presents a problem because it does not have the ability to have an alias. I am surprised that N4M allows one to put a badge from N4M on Facebook. I did that and now I need to figure out how to get rid of it!!
