Hey everyone- my daughter left for boot camp October 2nd. I missed a call from her last Friday telling me that her graduation is December 13th. I feel like the worst mom in the world for missing her call. Really didn’t expect her to call so soon but…Continue

Anna, sorry you two couldn't get together too. Timing is everything or so they say.
My husband and I went to Natural Bridge Virginia several years ago. It's very beautiful but the walk to the falls is deceivingly long. There's a lovely winery not far from there called Barrel Oak Winery, if you enjoy wine and get a chance do stop.
Happy travels!
Oleander,
Love the picture!!! So glad your girl is enjoying herself!!! These short "outings" will let both of you get used to the deployment when it gets here. And you'll already have a little bit of idea what she is doing with the pics and videos she sent!!!!
Alicia,
Yes, it is really hard when they first leave. You have to go quite a while until you can really get to hear from them. But just think, a year or more from now you will a "pro" at this journey called NavyMom and will be able to "pay it forward" to new Moms and share your story and what helped you get through it. My baby girl left 2 months after my mother passed away. I didn't think I would ever get through that. Now she's a veteran and her twin sister is still serving. And I have a son who is making a career out of the Navy. It's still hard to say goodbye but we manage!!!
Welcome JoJo!! I'll be sending you a personal welcome but want to say hello to you on here!!! All those messages apply to you as well. We really do help and support each other. I couldn't do it without all the wonderful Moms on here!!!! I appreciate each and every one of you!!!!
And now for my good news to share - our trailer is fixed!!!! Brand new axle, new bearings, new brakes!!!! We plan to finally leave here on Sunday and head for Natural Bridge, VA.
JayDee,
I was really bummed that we couldn't get together with your daughter. It was a long afternoon by the time we got done at the VA and got our few errands done. We got home just in time to get dinner!!!! Hope she isn't working herself too hard at the lab!!!!!
Hi JayDee, yep -- she's thrilled, especially with all the flight deck and helo landing training, they've been told to expect 6 hrs a day each day they're out there. I can't wait for the stories when she gets back!
We definitely do Alicia and we all made it through. So will you and your daughter. Keeping you both in our hearts and prayers.
I'm holding up fine Blondie, thanks. They went underway this morning. I'm grateful to have had 2 very short underways I'm sure it will help me adjust when she's deployed. She LOVED her helo training last night and sent a few pics and videos. So exciting!
Jojo, we're here for you. Come often, vent, brag, cry. We all need or will need support from these great moms who really understand & have been through it!
Here's a pic from last night's training
Alicia that's what we're here for. My brothers served in Vietnam and I'm not sure how my mom did it without a support group like this. Technology is a pain in some ways but Navy for Mom's is a great example of a good use!
Funny, your picture of the flags looks like it could have been taken at my house, nice pic!
Alicia, my husband brought in our kid in a box and set it on the sofa. My sailors puppy would not leave it alone. She kept sniffing it and would sit and watch it. When I opened it her face went right inside to check (you never know that little girl might be in the box..). Like Oleander, I hugged her clothes and cried. Heck, last time she was home I laid down in her bed and cried myself to sleep. It's a mom thing, don't let anyone take it away from you.
Alicia, I was a total wreck when my daughter left. She's my youngest and we're very close. It was so hard to let her go even though I totally supported her choice. I cried a lot! When she got the chance to call we both cried for the 1st minute or so - she was very homesick and having a difficult time. But she made friends and they still keep in contact. To this day she still says our letters kept her motivated and focused so write write write! You can't imagine how much it means for them to get letters!. And like JayDee said, put a small number on the back corner of the envelop so she can tell the order that you wrote them. Send her lots of encouragement, pics of her pets, funny stories about what's happening at home, mention how proud you are of her - all positive stuff. Both you and she will feel better!
P.S. my daughter donated all of her clothes when she arrived at bc so I only got her cell phone and back pack in the pkg. I hugged that backpack for hours and cried like a baby. It's what we do. We're moms : )
