Hi all! I've missed you all...JayDee, great pic and Happy Birthday to your sailor! Molly's birthday was last Sunday (10.6) and we were able to spend it with her before she reported to Florida on Tuesday. She's in the admin and med lab and was honored that a commander from TX called Florida command to commend her. She's pretty excited.

Boot camp seems a long time ago...they'll get through to the other side and will be stronger for it. Then A School and on to duty and C School and you'll get to talk and text and it'll be wonderful. :)

Potterycat,

How exciting for your daughter to be starting her journey - how challenging for you as you adjust to not having your girl nearby and not being able to talk to her as easily as you were used to.  JayDee and Oleander gave you great words of encouragement.  I can't say it gets easier but like these other great moms said, you learn a new normal.  Crying in the shower worked for me also because I had to be strong in front of her twin sister when my first daughter left.  A couple years later her sister left!!!  ughhh I miss seeing them as much as I'd like but like JayDee's picture shows - we make the best of the times we get!!!!  Keep us posted when you hear from her!!!  NavyMom hugs {{{ . . }}}

potterycat - words of wisdom from JayDee! Somehow we eventually get used to a new normal - that's not to say we ever stop missing our girls or don't feel the empty spaces they used to fill. But as JayDee said once you're able to communicate with her, especially in A school, you'll begin to feel more settled about this change in your lives.

We truly DO know what you're going through - and it IS hard. This isn't like your daughter went away to college - she's joined the Navy which is a completely different way of life with its own language and rules. Again - eventually you'll learn all of that and understand more. We weren't a military family so I researched and read as  much as I could ....which by the way was kind of annoying for my girl .. I kept writing about PIR while she was in boot camp and she had no idea what that was lol!

We're here. Ask questions, keep us in the loop with her progress. We may be miles apart but we're with you in spirit! Hugs!!!

Hey JayDee - Happy Birthday to your Sailor girl!!!

Today is my sailor's birthday!  Hard to believe that 4 years ago she was at BC and I couldn't talk to her.  I believe that she's pulled night duty this week so I probably won't get to talk to her until later but I did send her a text.  Here's a picture that I took on our family vacation last week.  She and her sailor hubby are on the left and her sister and her guy are on the right.  LOVE these kids.

potterycat, it is hard and it's okay for you to feel sorry for yourself.  Our daughters are such a part of us and when they are gone you're truly missing a piece of yourself.  Tomorrow will be hard and so will the next several.  Then you'll settle in to your own routine.  That doesn't mean you won't miss her but you'll be more comfortable knowing that BC is closer to being done.  Once she gets to A School she'll be able to call and text.  My daughter made it to GC before we got home from PIR.  I had to ask her to stop calling for a bit so I could concentrate on driving.  She ended up calling her boyfriend who was sitting the back seat of my car.  Girls.

Keep in mind that no news truly is good news.  The Navy will NOT call you unless there's an issue.  Know in your heart that she is doing just fine.  I almost flipped out when my daughter called at an unexpected time.  My first words were "is everything okay".  Haha.  She'd had to miss a call due to having duty and they let her call when she finished.

Once you know her division, be sure to join that group on Bootcamp Mom's.  You will get all kind of good tidbits, most importantly an idea of when they might call.  Don't flip out if you don't get a call even if the rest of her division is calling.  My daughter took extra watch just so she could have a special call to me on my birthday.  By doing so she gave up 2 calls home, but oh was I happy on my birthday>

Thank you Oleander & JayDee659.

This is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. I hope she is doing ok.

Potterycat, Oleander said it, these girls have such an incredible life ahead of them.

This group was my lifeline those early days.  LOVE these ladies.

Oh potterycat, we hear your heart and are here for you as your girl embarks on this amazing journey! Feel free to come here, vent, brag, whatever you need. There are amazing women here and between all of us we've probably experienced it all. Hang on, it's quite a ride. My daughter was my youngest and I thought my heart would break in the days leading up to her leaving. Try to be strong and excited for her as she prepares to leave - crying in the shower worked for me! Sending you both Navy mom hugs.Chin up, she has an amazing life ahead of her!

Hi All,

I've been out of touch for a while as we prepared for our girl to leave.  They called yesterday and told her to pack up now.  We thought we had a bit more time.

I'm trying to keep it all together but everytime I think of her, as a baby, young girl, and the amazing woman she is becoming I have to fight back the tears.  I'm happy to know not to expect the box and I feel that we have everything prepared for her but I'm wondering what I am forgetting.

Wow!  She is my first. My first for everything mothering. First to come home with us and first to leave home.

Our family and home life is soon to change.  Sooner than expected.  Her sisters are dealing with it best they can. I let them all skip school to be with her today.
