andrea I did get my poster board I have one sign completed and am almost done with the second as soon as that's completed and I figure out how to upload pictures I will.

Having a rough week and missing my SR terribly only 25 more days and I can see her; not only missing her but missing my Sailor on the Vinson and my youngest......does it ever get easier?

Good morning everyone I've been trying to catch up so it may be a minute :-)

Blondie, BZ on her promotion--lateral or otherwise always good news and bragging rights!! Hope your trip is going well and that you are getting some much needed relaxation!!

Anna, what a wonderful bday...even with the yoga, think I may have gone straight for the cake--after all calories don't count on birthdays right?! :-) Sounds like things are coming along with the packing, organizing and final move into you're new adventure. I know you will be so happy once it's all done!!

jappyj, did you finally end up with your poster board ;-) would love to see a pic of the completed project!!

Momof3,  As far as being a patient person...you will be amazed at how patient you will become mainly because you will have no choice LOL Stay as busy as you can!

Catsmom, so sorry to hear that Crystal won't be able to see Sara after all...I know how much she was looking forward to that :-(  Was she able to get the paperwork to the lawyer yet? Maybe at least that will finally get done, poor thing needs something to go her way...continued prayers for her as you!!

Blm, why do they always feel the need to add a dog?! Rachael ended up with two...and they aren't small either LOL Glad your girl is getting settled in and having her stateside...well makes for a happy mama!!

Charliedog...Welcome!! PIR is an awesome experience...one that you can't really put into words...so many emotions! And definitely something to look forward and count down to!

Still here at Rachael's been having a fantastic time...even with the rain here and there--just take umbrellas nothing is going to stop us...though these d@#% mosquitoes have been feasting have sure been trying...still not going to let them deter us ;-) Spending the weekends in historical towns and seeing all the sites--so nice when it's just the two of us! Catsmom, yes I did end up having to put two coats of paint UGH! finally got stuff hung, now I'm rearranging closets ect...as much as they move you would think she would have that down to a science...think she just likes to keep me busy LOL  Okay, back to work I go....

Charliedog,

We went to church in Lake Forest.  Because of traffic and all the traffic lights it would be more like 15 minutes to the part of Waukegan that Great Lakes is.  Keep in mind that there are mostly back roads around there.  The Hilton is right off 94 and you could take that right to Buckley which takes you straight to the gates of RTC.  However, there are many traffic lights and you will be a part of the rush hour traffic getting to work on a Friday morning.  Abbott Industries is all around that part of town and there is lots of traffic.  The Hilton is a nice, fairly new hotel and I'm sure it would be very nice.  You will be much closer to the mall in Vernon Hills and they also have lots of nice restaurants around there!!  Let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to help with.

Catsmom,

The kitchen is the last room to move to the trailer cause once I take the pots and pans and food, we will stay at the trailer.  This weekend we had a couple more upgrade projects to do.  I need to find a way to make the board under our mattress smoother so we don't get so many splinters from it.  I sanded and painted it but it is still just rough construction grade wood.  But I think the paint job will help.  Now I'll start moving in the living room stuff and then kitchen!!  It's getting there!!!!

I hope Crystal and Sara are able to keep in touch.  I still have contact with the girl I roomed with at North Island!!!!

blm, how fun a new grand dog! How ate the wedding plans going?

Charliedog, welcome! Happy dancing for your letter! PIR will be here quick!

Anna, how is everything going? Did you get it all sorted out, and did your kitchen stuff fit?

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Talked to Crystal a few times, she had a busy weekend helping her friend pack up to move. She is going back to school in Pensacola, and will then be going to Japan. I know she will miss her and her family. By the time Crystal goes back to school, Sara will be leaving. Such is Navy life, but I know they will stay in contact.

Anna! Great advice!  I am making a list! Do you know anything about Lakeforest?  My husband was looking at the Hilton there before I saw this post.  It says it is 2 miles from base...

Charliedog,

Welcome!!  I lived in Waukegan for a year recently so I know the area pretty well.  There are a couple nice hotels on 41 that is close to the base.  Sleep Inn is where we stayed back in 08 when our daughter had her PIR.  They provide shuttle service to the base and back so you don't have to stay in the long line waiting for security and inspection. Stay in the Waukegan area.  Gurnee is northwest of Waukegan and it has a nice mall there and plenty of big name restaurants.  If I may suggest Giordano's deep dish Chicago pizza!!!!  Also, when you are packing for PIR, remember to take along your daughter's laptop/cellphone, charging cords, and some super comfy clothes to change into while she is in the hotel!!!!  My daughter just wanted to get out of her uniform for a little while and I had nothing for her to put on!!  Also take along her favorite bath wash/shampoo as they usually want to take a nice LLLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGG hot shower!!!!  And don't forget extra batteries for the camera!!!!

Hi, I am new to this page.  My daughter is in BC-she left July 2.  I got my first letter from her on Thursday.  It sounds like she is hanging in there, but I miss her so much. PIR is 8/29. Has anyone been to PIR yet?  Any suggestions on hotels?  Or the meet and greet by Sarge?
