Ladies, this is not Navy related but it's daughter related and I just had to share.  My oldest daughter just successfully defended her dissertation and has earned her PhD in Chemistry from Virginia Tech!  We're so proud of her :)

Prayers andd Hugs Katski.

It's hard I know. My daughter has been through so much but lived her dream and out now. Wasn't crazy about leaving but has a 2 yr. Old now. Still has some health issues but the Navy has always been Great. Biggest thing Document and Keep copies of files.

That's good to know she is beside herself..went thru 4 yrs headin up her jrotc, swore in the day after she turned 17 before her senior yr of high school. Hasn't even been out of school a yr yet.... it's all she wanted and then took first opening this past oct to get to basic..didn't care what job at that time just wanted to be in the navy and wiling for anything.... she had actually collapsed during basic on final pt..two of her ship mates had to help her, but she was not seen...during grad she limped so bad and kept saying I'm okay..said she was told it's probably a groin pull ... and didnt see dr until almost 4 weeks after injury..she should have grad on 3/18. But on light duty til 5/1 and was told if put on another. Hold they would "cut her loose not good if you can't function ". No addl physical therapy no help at all.but still has to do watch and duties..prolong standing and walking...how do they expect her to heal... and told to deal with it if booted out cuz she should get e5 pay? The rest of her life?.. so confused.... mentally I think she is getting sad.... ..as mom I just cry and can't sleep, not thinking clear at work cuz I feel my girl is broken and I can't do a darn thing!...

Katski,

First of all she needs to make sure, if they are going to medically discharge her, that she claims a disability.  And not just the hip thing but the mental stress of loosing her chance to fulfill her navy career.  My daughter Catherine was given a 60% medical disability so she does get VA benefits for this.  It will ensure if she does have a permanent problem she can get it taken care of through the VA.  However, if she finally gets completely healed and wants to try to enlist later, she will have to give up her disability and request a waiver to enlist.

Katski, I'm so sorry that your daughter is going through this.  Unfortunately I don't have any first hand knowledge.  When Anna is able to chime in she probably will have some great information.  Will keep your daughter in my prayers.  Please keep us up to date!

Does anyone know process if medically discharged?  Not healed either so what happens if discharged.... who is responsible for the continued medical cost and possible surgery as well as a possible permanent disability?  Has received no meds or physical therapy..only light duty but still has long watch and duties where she has to walk extremely long distance and stand for hours...so confused.. nothing has been done to heal her... hard for us as both mom and dad are in medical field and don't quite get it... good enough to stand 12 hr watches  ..why not switch her job?  Sorry to complain just worried mom
