SailorsLIMom,

I saw that news about the gentleman passing away!!! And yes Oleander, I visited the statue in San Diego with daughter Jennifer!!  There is also a section in this park area dedicated to Bob Hope's visits to the troops!!

The sailor who was (probably) the model for that "iconic" statue died recently. The statue spreads the message of joyous-and triumphant--return so beautifully!

Great pic JayDee! There's one just like this in San Diego right next to the Midway.

RIP Chief Petty Officer Kent.

Anna, sounds like we'll miss you in Pensacola.  Have a safe trip, I know you'll enjoy being on the road again!

When we were in Sarasota recently we almost drove by this statue when I noticed it.  Made hubby turn around and go back. A photographer who was there took our picture.  I'm so glad I saw it!

@Bremda-thank you for your kind words and support.  I miss her so much. It's been a struggle for me. I am super proud of her though.

RIP CPO Kent.  So sad.

JayDee,

We are actually going to go to Gulf Shores, LA for about a week and camping there.  We will drive to Pensacola to check out Jenn's new house she is living in and give her some stuff she couldn't take with her and packers wouldn't pack!!!  Then we start going up north through Alabama.  We'll probably end up back in Pensacola after Christmas to hide until winter is over!!!!

Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent was laid to rest today at Arlington National Cemetery.  She was a Navy cryptologist and one of four Americans that was killed in Syria on January 16th.  Fair Winds and Following Seas
