Thanks for the input JayDee659. My daughter too had things disappear in basic but they did end up getting back to her. I figured I would wait until we know where she will be going.

Hi Everyone!  My daughter left for boot camp on Aug. 1, 2018.  I'm missing her, but super excited for her!

Jennifer and Stephanie, I got my daughter the Baby G Shock.in black and don't recall having many options with that.

As far as giving it before or after boot camp  I'd wait. They're encouraged to not have valuables. Despite the fact that most everyone there is pretty honorable, stuff still disappears. My daughter even has issue with that on her carrier, somebody swiped her new neck kerchief but she was lucky. One guy had his dress whites swiped, yup the whole uniform  He had to stay on the carrier until everyone else was off. I felt really bad for whomever was standing on the pier waiting for him.

Stephanie, we celebrated my daughter’s HS graduation along with the going away to Bootcamp together since they were so close and we had people possibly coming from out of town. I was going to use the watch for the PIR graduation. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what model they purchased? When viewing online there are so many different ones.

My daughter is leaving the 28th of August from the Houston area for boot camp. We are having a going away party. I know they are not allowed to take anything with them.  Question is..Did any of you give your daughter something special before she went or did you wait  until graduation?  I really like the Baby G Watch suggestion ;)

You're welcome hruark01 - I got my daughter's on Amazon.

You know what JayDee? I have no idea if she's figured it all out or not lol! All I know is that she loves it and it's been part of her daily life for years.

NavyMomSATX how's your daughter doing with boot camp?  I'm guessing that you've heard from her by now?

Comment by JayDee659 on August 9, 2018 at 10:25am

Oleander has your daughter figured out how to use hers yet?  My daughter said it does so many things that she's only partially discovered them.  I wish she'd learn to use the time zone utility though, she calls me and says "what time is it there anyway?"  I'm happy for the call but it always amuses me that she's that confused.  I guess as long as she makes it to work on time that's all that matters.

hruark01, I second JayDee's suggestion. We also got our daughter a Baby G Shock. She just celebrated 3 years assigned to her ship in San Diego and still wears it every single day!
