better yet:   My sailor's ship is out to sea and is expected back late summer.

Less in definitely BETTER.

Please let's protect our sailor's on ALL their missions..  We do NOT know who is watching this public site.

Ship names, personnel sailor names, should be limited or in private messages.

INCORRECT:
My Sailor is in XYZ unit and is stationed at ABC camp in XXX city in Iraq.
My daughter is aboard the XYZ ship heading to ABC city/country in X days.
They will be coming back on X date from XXX city.

CORRECT:
My Sailor is deployed in Iraq.
My son is aboard the Stennis.
They will be coming back sometime in May.

When in doubt, less is better.

My son left Wednesday, March 23, on USS Bataan.  It is his first deployment. His dad and I went to Norfolk to see him and got a tour of the ship! We did not expect it, and it was also a welcome relief to meet other Hull Techs that he will be working with. It sounds like they will be gone for a lot longer than 9 months - more like 12 to 15 months.  Hope to hear from him soon!

"Snipes"  I like that.  I will tell my son.  I will also mention that they run the navy.   He likes to feel important.   lol what man doesn't?!

@debbiel   yes BECC (Basic Engineer Core Course)  is the first classes they take before they get started into more specialized classes for their rate. Mine didn't tell me much until afterwards when I pumped him for details.   Guys...don't they know their Mom's want to know???  &  I love your profile pix I had wanted something similar but never found it at the right moment.

I want to thank everyone for the great information and I am learning alot about what my son will be doing.  He just finished BECC (I think that is what it is called) today and will be starting the next level of HT training on Monday.  He is not one to tell me a lot so I am learning it all here.

interesting side note.   Hull techs in boot camp are also known as "snipes".  when I found this out I mentioned to him ...now if someone talks of snipe hunting, I know what to look for now.   Must have dated myself as he was clueless of what I was talking about.  But the NEX at boot camp had some neat shirts in their rate.  Wish I had shopped there for them ..hard to find other places.   they also have the saying "Snipes (or Engineers) run the Navy".   They are engineers trained to fix alot of stuff, so knowledge-wise they can do great in the outside world.

Definately not a boring job.   Just think of what he can fix when he comes home!
