Valerie, I'm in class right now but I just wanted to jump on and say welcome back on. I'm sorry that Wes had to leave you this morning but I'm so glad he made the choice to go home and support you and your family. I hope to hear from you again soon. Take care.

Barbara, it's good to hear from you. I'm sorry about the young mother. She sure didn't waste any time getting pregnant again, huh? Well, I'm glad she has people like you she can turn to for help. Maybe someday someone will be able to get through to her and other young mothers like her.
How long is your mom going to have to have the Chemo treatments? Do you have other family around who can stay with her if she gets very sick from the treatments?
Yes I do ride. I have a Suzuki 800 cruiser. It's actually a bit small for making a cross-country trip but it is water cooled and shaft drive so that would help. I've actually not done a lot of mountain riding, there are so many things that can jump out at you as you go through the curves. I've got enough "Suzuki tattoos" from cars pulling out in front of me, I don't need to worry about gravel, deer, dogs, stopped cars etc being on the other side of the hill or curve.
I'd likely drive the car and tow the bike so I'd have it for daytrips. I would love to go to that area though.

Anna, I'm so glad Chris got the paperwork through!!! I'm not sure that I ever did say congrats on his class ranking either. Way to go ChrisA! That's so cool that you talked to Nabisco. If they were to think about it, I bet they would use the idea in a heartbeat. Can you imagine if every ship and base galley/NEX stocked enough Oreos? There would be the boost that the economy needs! It's a real shame Nabisco has to be so "double stuffed" about it!

Rene, I'll be crying for you tomorrow. I know you're gonna miss your kid. At least you can go see Jackson! And to think that after you spoil him, you can give him back to his momma. :)

Have a good night all. Going down early tonight.

Good Evening everyone,
Wish I could type this in green but I don't see that option anywhere.
Barbara, good to hear from you again. I understand being too busy to write. So sorry to hear the young mother is pregnant again. Sometimes young girls think having babies is the answer to their problems. Did B get in touch with my nephew?

Want to share some good news - Chris finally got his paperwork processed through and will be able to put his E4 crow back on after he finishes A school. Of course it can't be IS yet so he will go back to being AO3. But hey - at least he got his rank back!!!
Also - I can see pictures again!!!! Jennifer had a friend come over this weekend (OK a little difficult at first - he is Catherine's ex boyfriend) but he is still friends with Jennifer so . . . . anyway we let him spend the night with us because he didn't have any other place to stay and he worked on my computer Sunday morning while I went to church. He fixed it and I can see everyone's pictures again!!!!! I'm so happy now.
Also . . . . . several days ago several of us Moms were talking about oreo cookies and how much our boys LOVED them. Someone made the comparison to the coffee commercial of a few years back. Well I contacted Nabisco to see if they would be interested in a commercial idea about oreos and our servicemen/women. I explained that the idea was being kicked around by several Navy moms but unfortunately they cited company policy of only using their ad agency and shot us down!!! Oh well - - - I thought it was a great idea - - their loss!!!
Well I'm off - time for sleep!!!

They do have a food allawance, Diane but they take I believe it's $280 for meals. Did Frank get cammies while he was at bc? Chris says they have to all have the complete cammies by March 30 or 31. That's another $500. They certainly don't get a free ride in the military but between job security, educational benefits and pay it's still hard to beat. I just wish the recruiters told that kind of stuff up front. Just wait. During the next week or two he will go through a finance class for a couple of days, (he will get college credit for it) and they will talk him into $400,000 in life insurance, Thrift Savings, (retirement) and a lot of other stuff. It is a good deal but I told Chris until he is married or has kids why does he need the insurance but he opted to keep it so...

How's everyone else?

Hello, Mary (Chris' mom)! You're on, girlfriend! Bring some muck boots along, so you can traverse the mucky areas in the corrals. You cannot terrorize the sheep, or our guard llama might spit at you! Well, our 'spring' weather was short lived this weekend, it's already in the 30's and raining - guess the ground will be white tomorrow morning!

Carl: Glad to have a Dad on the message board!! By the way, we have a Bobby Burns' celebration here each year - the pipe & drum corp are awesome!!

Anna: Thanks for sharing the great news about the WA folks and your daughter's group!

Vikki: Guess we 'Rocky Mountain-ers' have to stick together!!! LOL!! Are you getting a change in your weather too tonight??

Rene: How are you doing today?? When you drive up to see your new grandson, you will have to take LOTS of photos, and then post one or so for all of us to enjoy!

Good Night, Ladies & Dad(s) - I am praying for each of you and your sailors!!

OK - I know this has nothing to do with the IS group, but I wanted to share something so special that involved my daughter in WA. A N4M mom came down from Alaska to visit with her son stationed in WA. She got in touch with another Mom that lives in WA who she met through another N4M group when both sailors were in A school. The WA Mom's sailor is also stationed on the same base my daughter is and the two girls have been in touch with each other by text msg. The two moms decided to get together for dinner with their sailors and invited some other sailors and some other parents who live around the base. All in all there were 10 sailors and 6 parents. Everyone had a really good time and the parents all paid for the sailors meals!!!!. The sailors then all took off to have some fun. They posted some pictures on the WA group page and I got to see my Catherine!!!! I had tears rolling down my cheeks as I read all the comments from the parents about how much they enjoyed meeting and talking to my baby girl!!!!! No one can ever say this Navy For Moms website is not the greatest thing in the world!!!! A couple of the parents gave the sailors their personal cell phone numbers in case they ever need a closeby "parent". It was so awsome to read about their group dinner!!!
Just wanted to share!!!

Diane, so glad Frank is adjusting so quickly. It's a small base so he will learn the people and the places on base quickly. He will not be able to have his car until he reaches phase two. If all goes well he will get there like next Friday (a week and a half from now). Chris was almost to phase three before I took his car to him and I'm glad. Once he had his car he was gone constantly for the first couple of weeks. He even came home to NC the week after I drove 6 1/2 hours to take it up there! Then he turned around the following weekend to drive 4 1/2 hrs back to see a friend in another city between here and there. He has settled down now but it's my understanding that he had a minimum of 25 hours of mando study this week and last so now I don't even get a phone call, much less a visit. He is planning to come home one weekend in May as he has been invited to the prom at his former high school. By then he will (hopefully) be out of "A" school and at least ready to class up for "C" school. Now I can only hope he is smart enough to go somewhere in VB to rent his tux and not try to order from here over the phone. LOL!!! I don't want him to get his heart broken though as this girl is one of his ex's. She is a beautiful girl and I could tell by the way he would look at her when they dated a couple of years ago that he really liked her a lot. I still have not seen him look at any other girl quite the same way although he says that she is not "the one". Chris was supposed to call tonight but he didn't, if he does, I'll tell him about Frank, Cameron and Kayla so he can start finding them. (Ok not Kayla until next week but...) If Frank is Jared's roommie then Chris will find him as Chris knows Jared and Valerie's Wes. Anna's son Chris (ChrisA the fleet returnee) and my ChrisM are in the same class. They do develop a pretty tight knit group. Do not confuse him with the ChrisA, ChrisM as we use those to designate which mom they belong to. It's not their last names. He will do well there.

Vikki, you are of course so right girlfriend! The wine helps with the paper so very much. Actually I'll find out tomorrow if it helped or hindered but I feel better about the couple of paragraphs I got done tonight!!!! Two glasses and I was able to just write away. One more glass and I won't be able to write but maybe I will sleep! No. I don't want to open my last bottle of white this late at night. I'll save it for another evening. My two glasses were sufficient. How are you? Is your weather still as nice as yesterday? It gives me hope that ours will be as nice in another day or two.

Dyon, I'm coming to visit you! Not tonight...I do enjoy new experiences, especially if it involves the outdoors and plants or animals. I won't come until more spring type weather! Maybe I'll get a bigger motorcycle, swing by and see Vikki on the way and then come terrorize the sheep! Just kidding! I would like to get to meet the sheep and see MT.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Rene, how was your day? I know you are not looking forward to having to tell Jared good by again so soon but it won't be nearly so long now until he is home again.

Barbara has been pretty quiet also lately. Anyone heard from her?

Good night all. Have a blessed day tomorrow.

Good Evening Everyone,

I guess I can't always say hello ladies since now we have a Dad on here!!! How great is that!! Welcome Carl! Now I hope we get to hear from your wife once in awhile also!! Just kidding!!
Diane,
Welcome also to you!!! So your son will be waiting for a class! When my Chris got there he waited for just over 2 weeks so don't be shocked if it takes a while for them to get another class filled. Hopefully tho' it won't take that long!!
Tooswife1,
I'm sure your daughter will do fine at BS. She made it this far - and I think by this time in BC they are so looking forward to the end of the tunnel that they really throw themselves into the end. But just to be on the safe side - I'm keeping her in my prayers!!! So she might be starting class with Diane's son???

Vikki,
So glad to hear from you again - - sorry to hear about the surgery situation. Today our weather was nice - up in the 60's - - no winter coats, a little bit of sunshine. Oh to drive with the car window down again for once!! I'm sure we're not completely done with winter yet but it sure is a nice break for once!!!
Hello Suzanne, Mary, Rene, and Dyon - I hope all is going well with everyone!!
Anna
P.S. - - - hope I didn't miss anyone - I kinda went through all the comments quickly and our group is getting BIGGGGG - which is wonderful!!!

Hi Diane, Welcome to the group! What to expect? Hmmm. I suppose you mean for your son...he will be on hold while he does his processing there and goes to medicals to drop off his records and get acquainted with the base. He can have his cell phone, laptop, iPod right away. If he does what he is supposed to he should phase up in two weeks so in a few days he will be asking for some civvies to wear in the evenings and on the weekends.

He is going to be pleasantly surprised to find that he is no longer sharing a room with 88 other guys and a more or less private bathroom! He may class up within a week or two or it could be longer.

He will be kept busy in the meantime working around the base doing odd jobs. He will be given a schedule for his duty days. When he is on duty he must remain at the barracks from 6:00am to 6:00am the following morning except to go to the galley and to go to classes. He will be able to get online or on the phone etc. but he will remain at the barracks during that time. For my son duty is every 6th day. When they stand watch they cannot be on the phone, etc.

Send any packages to him USPS insured, not FedEx or UPS. That way it goes to the NEX and he can walk over and pick it up. Otherwise, it goes to the schoolhouse and security gets it first. Shhh! * don't try to get boxes of Skittles through security * They don't like things that rattle! All Skittles should go insured to the NEX. He will tell you certified but they mean insured. Cert. is for docs, insured is for packages.

Otherwise, if you want to know what to expect here? Some silliness, some tears of sadness and tears of joy, some worry and fretting, some excitement. We don't know much about their jobs and never will but we share what we can and we learn what we can't share as we go. They all know each other by last names we all know them by first names only. They all find each other eventually. It's a small base and the IS folks are pretty much all together.
The best thing about this group is that as long as your son is an IS you will be an IM (Intel Mom). Kick back and enjoy the next six years! We look forward to hearing about your sailor and about you too.
