Rene,

Today is your day!!!! All I can say is ENJOY!!! And I love that commercial idea!! I always cried at that Folger's commercial!! Haven't seen it in awhile - Thank God - with two in I don't think I'd be able to stand it!!!

Mary,
Good luck on your job fair! I hope it's really successful for you. I approve of your outfit - can't go wrong with basic black pants and white top. Classic without being over the top!!! Happy reading over your lunch break!!!

Valerie,
So sorry to hear of your mom. I know what you're going through - I'm definately keeping you and your family in my prayers. Keep us posted.

Barbara,
Thanks for the info about that book - I've never read it before either but I'm going to the library to find it for sure!!!

Vikki,
That show sounds neat. We have a hall here in Akron that brings in lots of venues. I'll have to see if it comes around here. How's the house selling going? We've been trying to sell our condo in Mentor for 6 months now and have had very little interest in it. Just reduced our price by over 8 thousand. I could sure use prayers for a buyer!!!! Soon!!!! Gotta get out from under that place so I can move on with my hubby in a few months.

Suzanne,
How's your weather over there? We are under a flood watch and back in freezing temps today!! This weekend was so nice except for all the rain. At least it wasn't snow!!!

Patti Sue,
I'm sorry - remind me again - where is Russell in his school again. I've GOT to update my notebook!!!!

Patti Sue and Suzanne, Last week while I was adjusting to classes it took about all I had to keep up. I'm trying during my lunch break today to read so I'm not so far behind tonight! lol
Yup Patti Sue, it is what it is!

Gotta make this quick so I can get to class....
Barbara, that particular pic is Chris hanging down at Kitty Hawk, NC about a week before he left for GL. I did participate but since I was taking the pics....
Vikki....Altar Boyz sounds terrific. I wish someone else in my family enjoyed seeing stuff like that.
Valerie, I am saying prayers for your mom, Wes, and you that you find the strength and comfort to handle it all. You are literally stressed from coast to coast.
Rene, What can I say to you except cherish all those moments. Lots of pics! I know you will be so excited to see Jared and it will destress him as well.
Everyone have a grrrreat day! (Coined by my hero, Tony the Tiger)

Barbara, You just had to mention that book? I used to cry everytime I read it to Chris. I'd get to the part where even when he was grown upp she would watch him and now I'm loosing it again thinking of him holding her when she got old! Ok, enough of the teary eyes. Gotta get my stuff packed for morning and into bed. I hate the first 2 weeks of the time change.
I agree with you and Valerie, make mine double stuff too.

Vikki, School has been going well. I stressed this weekend about clothes. We have a job fair on mTuesday. Resumes have to be finished tomorrow and we have to dress at least "one step above" the job we are seeking. I don't know what is being offered! How do I know what one step above is? After much searching and stressing I finally found a pair of black pants, black jacket and a white sweater. If she does not like that then I also got a white shirt plus my multitude of other shirts. (I have to be careful as my instructor is a friend I met on N4Ms and she may read my posts, teehee, go ahead and read Regina! You know I like the class!) So I really should be off here and working on my resume but you ladies are just so much more fun!

Everyone have a good evening and I'll be back!

Oh yeah, I've heard that "A" and "C" school grads are not that big of a deal if you decide to not go.

Ann, There are all types of lodging around there. If you wish, you can sstay at the Navy Lodge there on the base. Your son would have to meet you at the gate and get you to the Lodge. Once you have the paper showing you are staying at the Lodge you can pretty freely come and go. To go over to the barracks, the school, etc. he must be with you. It's $69/night for 2 queen beds and a kitchenette. They have a small play area for the kids and it's a few hundred feet from the ocean. There are also BBQ grills out in back and picnic tables. I've heard Hampton is nice (where I usually stay, but not at Norfolk yet)and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a nice looking Best Western. Of course directly out at the beach there are many options but a bit pricier. I've often heard that places just off a base are not always the best. Cheaper but that's where a lot of "girls" hang out on street corners trying to pick up sailors. I did not see any of that at VB when I was there but I've heard it's like that in some areas right off Norfolk. Bet you're getting excited.

So Dyon, would Pelican go to OCS before "A" school? And come to think about it since she already has a degree she would not come out as PO, right? I'm really unsure how all that works. You could help her there a lot better than the rest of us so I'll leave her to you. Thanks for info though. I'm glad we have an officer mom on board.

Pelican -
If I am not mistaken, (and Ladies, jump in here and correct me if I'm incorrect!) Intell requires that the first commitment be 8 years. Physical requirements I believe are the same; boot camp is first, then OCS = Officer Candidate School, etc., etc.

I would advise ANYONE visiting with a recruiter, before you sign your name on the bottom line, get the recruiter to write a letter (to you, the recruit) stating all his/her statements. If they won't write the letter - don't sign. We have known several sailors, soldiers and airmen that were given some great statements / promises, then those statements / promises fell through. Due to the nature of the beast, many recruiters don't have full details regarding Intell work. A good recruiter will strive to get you the best answers to your questions. And of course, there's the MOMS!!!

Pelican, for officers I don't know about terms of obligation time. For enlisted, it's an extra two years of active duty because of the amount of time in school and the money spent on training. "A" school is the primary training phase for any job in the Navy now. That is where you will learn a little bit about all the segments of Intel (ground, imagery, OPINTEL, strike, etc). If you do really well in "A" school and stay at the top of your class you will have the opportunity at the end of "A" school to fill out a "dream" sheet listing your preferences for duty station/job. At the end of "A" school you will be assigned a specific job. Depending on the job they place you in, you will have 5-15 weeks of "C" school to learn that job in depth. At the end of "C" school there will be, I believe the other moms have said, one week of PO INDOC class and upon passing that test you leave school as an unoffical Petty Officer. It becomes "official" sometime after reporting to your first duty station. "A" school for Intel is 13 weeks.
"AO" rating is Air Ordnanceman. Anna's Chris loaded warheads, etc onto the fighters. If there are any ratings, etc that you wish to check out go to usmilitaryabout.com and look for Navy ratings. They list them and you can click the links to find out the length of school, where the schools are and some of the job duties.
