Oh yeah, Thanks Dyon! I even knew that one but forgot it somewhere along the way! (The mind is still good, it's the memory that shot all to ****) Well, congrats to Kevin in advance. He will obviously make it.

Dyon, It's so wonderful to hear about Kevin and how well he has done. I know a MCPO is Master Chief but what is a SCPO? Have a great trip (really sorry you can't enjoy this great weather).

Pelican, the best of luck to you in your endeavors! Remember when it gets real tough, that you have the ASBAV score to be there, you can do it! You have been very smart to find out all you can from other sailors, moms, and recruiters about the rating. Keep up the great work, that's the kind of inquisitiveness you will need, and they are looking for. You go girl!

Valerie, thanks I've really missed my friends this week. It seems like it's been a few weeks since I've been on. I did hear from Chris last night. He was looking for a restuarant we went to last fall when we visited the base. I tried to tell him but he had taken the wrong direction to begin with. They finally found it but he said they had taken the swordfish off the menu so I suppose he will try to find somewhere else for his seafood. They did not get to their test yesterday, will do it Monday. Yesterday was briefs. I'm still hangin in there with ya, waiting to hear what happens to Wes. ChrisM did say that he had talked to Wes the other day while ChrisM had duty. Alas though there was nothing to report. In fact when I told Chris that Wes was on hold again he said well if he was on hold then at least he was still there. Maybe this time around Wes is flying REALLY low under the radar. So low, even the sailors don't know if he is there or not! lol.

Rene! The Mac is coming?! Wow! I always wanted to see them as well and they've been near here a few times but it was never when I was able to go. A good friend of mine went to one of their concerts about 5 years ago and she said it was awesome.
I will admit though that I never was a Stevie Nicks fan. I liked the songs that Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham sang leads. When "Go You Own Way" comes on, the whole town gets to hear it. Up go all 8 speakers in the car and everyone gets a free Mac session! lol I had wanted to get tickets for the Cheap Trick/ Poison/Def Leppard concert this month but they were very costly and without a job right now I could not find a way to justify the expense. Now if Rod Stewart or Tina Turner were to come back!....

One thing I would like to mention while I'm thinking about it. If your sailors are out on deployment and you think security is an issue because of their location, if you don't feel good about posting their names then you might want to consider putting a nickname or initials, etc. at your profile.

I'm out to get my car scrubbed, it desperately needs a bath and the weather is beautiful so I'll be back later. Have a wonderful day all!

Good morning to each of you!!

Rene - have to chuckle about the food faves!!! Oreos reign supreme here for Kevin!! I've got my fingers crossed for Jared - the pay extension is a good sign, I believe.

You have GOT to be kidding me - Fleetwood Mac???? Do you surprise your daughter by singing the lyrics of these 'old' songs? Kevin's older brother, our Kris, has 4 children - the eldest being 14 years old - I surprise her quite often with my knowledge of lyrics! Kris' other children are 10, 9, and 1 1/2 (I know WHAT were THEY thinking???) Anyways, I digress, the Eagles, the Beach Boys!!

Oh! Rene - that is Kevin's philosophy about being at the top!! We've met a number of his Navy 'buddies' through the years - and they all tell us the same thing about him. Kevin's attitude and dedication will just blow the 'competition' away! Kevin has competed on the Super Squad teams (PT competition) for a number of years. I honestly believe that attitude has gotten Kevin where he is today - the first of his class to reach P.O., then C.P.O., and looks like he will come up for S.C.P.O. sometime within the year.

Beautiful weather?? Well, yes and no - the dreary skies of the past few days are gone, BUT the cold below zero overnight temps are BACK! AARRGGHH!! But, at least this time of year, those temps don't move in and stay for MONTHS!! We should be "up" into the 20's by noon, then back into the DEEP FREEZE!

Barb -

Thanks for the reminder for being tight lipped on specifics!!

Pelican -

One additional tidbit I can give you is that AFTER your service in the Navy, usually 8 years or more, you may qualify for government contract work that requires the top level clearances. We have known several sailors that mustered out after some 8 - 12 years, and got fantastic jobs in the 'private sector', utilizing their skills and knowledge.

Also, I believe it has been mentioned previously, but I thought would do well to mention again. The college courses that are offered are an additonal benefit for a sailor! Kevin has done much of his course work while at sea, he finds that the attention the courses require helps him pass his 'free' time while on board. Where else in our country today can a young person get good training that easily transcends into civilian life, a college education, plus other opportunities??

Lizzie - Hellos to you!!!

Take care ladies!! My dear husband and I are taking a little weekend trip to visit some relatives on their ranch. Don't want you girls to worry when you don't hear from me for awhile!

Barbara:

OMGoodness!!! What a small world indeed!! Now, if I follow the line of thought, the best friend of your son is familiar with my "Alpa IS" son?? Are B and his friend currenly over in the sands and seas overseas?? (I apologize for not being up on where B currently is.) The reason we sometimes refer to my son as "Alpha" is that he is such an achiever - in all of his training classes, if he wasn't the top of the class by the first week - he studied hard and by golly by graduation or end of the class - he was at the top of the class. But, our "Alpha" guy is not one bit conceited - no brag, just fact.

Yes, the sky does look good in the photo - that's exactly what my husband & I said also!!

You also gave some super advice to Pelican (and Pelican - Welcome aboard!) - I don't believe I can top it.

Rene, The Eagles are awesome. I went and saw their Hell Freezes Over tour way back when and they rocked! We were at "Death Valley", Clemson University's football stadium in SC. They had huge monitors all around the stadium so you could still see everything real well. They played a LOT of old stuff. All I can still say is WOW!!

tooswife1 Yes, I organized our M&G at Flanagan's. It's great! Go to flanagansfoodandfun.com to see a sample menu. If you get their phone number you can call ahead and tell them that you have "X" number of people coming that night and they will set you up in the front dinning room. It's not formal, very laid back in fact, and very close to the base. It's actually about a mile, I think from the corner there to the North Gate of RTC.

Just some info I recently learned for all the IS moms who sailors are in the A school. I know a few moms were concerned about their sailor having mandatory study and was concerned that they weren't doing well. ChrisA just told me that for their class Unit 7&8 for here on out they are required to do mandatory after hours study time. He said then, of course when they closed the school down because of the weather, "it makes it kinda hard to go to mandatory study when the school is closed!!!!" He'll just have to make it up another night!!!! :)

Pelican,
Welcome to the group!!!! I am so excited to hear you are interested in joining the Navy. I am a veteran myself, and have two kids serving. Right now my son is going through A school for IS and he loves it. He was an AO before, got out and then went back in to become an IS. There are several Moms on here who have sailors that have completed A and C school and are now out in the fleet. They are Ellen, Rene, Dawn, Vikki, Barbara, and Dyon. I hope I didn't miss anyone - those are the ones I can mention right off the top of my head!!! They can give you some insight from their perspective.
Feel free to ask questions anytime and we will try to help you with finding answers.
Again - Welcome Aboard!!!
Anna
