Hello Moms,

Barbara, I heard from my nephew in Bahrain and he said he would be more than happy to get in touch with your son. Depending on which unit he is in, there are two IS units attached to his same building. He said many times he has taken new guys out to show them around, take them shopping for whatever they need, and just generally help them get settled. He's been there for almost 2 years. So I will send you a PM with his email for you to give Brendan and have Brendan contact him. His name is JJ and he's an ET3.
Let me know how it goes!!!!

I know you must miss your granddaughter and her soon to be baby brother/sister. When Russell gets his leave are they all coming to see you? Or are you going to see them?

From what the fleet moms have said it is the when the sailor has completed his/her requirements for Petty Officer and their officially command allows them to start wearing their crow. i'm going to go back this evening when I have more time to where we had discussed it a cuple of weeks ago and see what else I can find unless one of them ansewrs here.

Ellen, When the sailors get to their command and they have the "frocking" can families attend that? Do any of you know? They can go ahead and put their rate emblems and chevron patch on before that correct? I'm thinking about taking Chris to have portraits made when he comes home for leave and was wondering if he will be able to already have his rating badge. Do any of the fleet moms know about the frocking ceremony?

Cool, Barb and Rene, maybe Chris has already taken his typing test. That one was making me a bit nervous for him. I won't worry about that now.
Rene, I don't know if they do the graduation ceremony inside the school building or outside. If it's outside I'm sure there is an angle somewhere that someone can get a pic of him. If you look from the front of the building back across the street there is nothing there visible except parked cars and woods, at the back of the building I don't believe there is anything there other than the ocean but I'm not sure about that. I quietly and quickly took a pic of one of the sailors for his mom in the parking lot up by the barracks and with her permission I posted it on the "A" school page. I simply put the photo into MSPaint and took the little eraser thing and erased his last name on his uniform shirt. Then I enlarged the photo and double checked the background and didn't see anything that appeared to be sensitive. I've not heard of any back lash from it.
If the ceremony is inside the building then I'd say no cameras are allowed, but I don't know. I do know that security inside the building is tight. When Chris and I went up to visit before he went to GL, we pretty well had free roam of the outside (as long as he was with me) but when he went inside the school building and asked if he could take a look around they said no. He'd have to wait until he had authorization. He said, ok see ya in a couple of months, and they replied they'd be looking forward to seeing him there. Maybe Jared already knows, or maybe he is just too shy to ask.
Have a good day and don't work too hard!

Valerie, I remember reading it in Chris' contract when it told about the IS job. I remember that was one of the requirements. Actually, I have the copy of his contract. I will go get it and look to make sure I'm not giving out bad info. Have fun at the gym tonight rather than "beating it up".

I don't remember a Joshua's mom, Suzanne. Chris has tthe same problem with running with others but he has always tried to help others set a faster pace by running with them. Chris has done some three miles and five miles on the treadmill but I'm not sure how long his longest run outside has been since he got to Dam Neck. That would be really cool if you could hook up with his roommates mom!

Hi DawnRae! It's great to hear from you. I'll pass it along to Chris about the galley fish. Fish is one of his favorites although he goes to the Commissary more now and buys groceries for the room. He's been getting HungryMan meals, more ramein nooldles, and few things of that type. It makes me think though that his pantry could expand if he has a can opener. Soups, beans, veggies, fruits.

Suzanne,
Now is the time for Girl Scout cookies. I know my son always liked to get a box or two of cookies and I'm sure they won't have any little girl scouts at the school!!! I'm going to pick up a few boxes and take with me this weekend when we go to see Chris.
