Rene, Yes Ellen and her husband were going to help his parents out for a few days and then she was going I believe to her sister's or her aunt's maybe for a couple of days while the kids are gone. I do hope her kids are having some fun with their brother while they are traveling around England. I know it must be a treat for Jim to have them over there with him. I believe Ellen was going to be gone all this week. I don't recall when her kids were to come back home, it seems I remember her saying she was doing laundry for three kids times 9 days.

Patti Sue you are right. Understand what's going on at school,no. Understand how much you can miss your kids, yes. Thank you for all the prayers and we all keep adding names to ours as well. Have a good evening.
Valerie take that number for the ring company with you tomorrow to call them. I'm interested in what they have to say. Chris' is supposed to be in around mid April.

tooswife, If you can arrange to meet your daughter at the airport before she leaves GL then you can give her a cell phone. Chris took a cell and iPod with him from the airport to Dam Neck. I think he could have taken his laptop too but I'm not sure. I sent his laptop a few days after he got there. He was asking for it by about the second day so I think they can take it with them. Maybe one of the other moms can tell you for sure. All electronics have to be given after they are away from RTC. Also, anything that you do ship to her at Dam Neck, make sure you send it priority, insured. It will make it through security much faster. Any large envelopes and docs should be mailed certified. I sent Chris' Valentine's card regular mail but everything else I've sent insured. Don't send foodstuff or anything with a powder base. And God knows, DON'T SEND BOXES OF SKITTLES!!! Those guys at security don't like rattly things! If she does well, you can ship her some civies about a week later. Chris also took his distance running shoes when he left the airport. In with his laptop I also sent him running shorts, and synthetic socks for running. It was only a little over a week before I mailed two pairs of jeans, more socks, more running gear and a nice polo shirt and Skittles. I repeat, don't send Skittles! She will phase up a little more quickly there than at some of the schools if she does well.

Vikki, I would buy your home so you could go see Tim but without a job I probably wouldn't get the loan so I'll pray for you.

Barbara, I misread your post the first time and thought it said you were going to make your kids clear the now from the driveway to the mall! I thought, "Boy, I hope they live really close!" Then I read it again and saw " to go to the mall". Whew! Anyway have fun shopping! Be careful!

The way I understand the open bay is that each of the barracks has an open area out in the center. If for any reason ie, rooms condemed, a reprimand, etc. those people are brought out into that open area and berthed there. They have a temporary bed and locker etc so that if 20 of them have to be placed out there it's almost like going back to bc. Much different than having a room with only one or two others.
I know Chris was "tickled" when he got to DN and was sharing a room and head with just one other guy. He thought he had gone to heaven after sharing a room and head with 88 others.
tooswife, it may be Monterey where Patti Sue's son is but somewhere on the West coast there is a Fleet Intelligence school of some sort. That may be only for the CT folks or it may be an advanced training facility for any Intels. I've only remembered seeing it in one place that I've read. If I can find it again, I'll try to get more info. I know that a lot of the CT ratings train at Correy Station, Fla. so maybe the entire Navy foreign language school and the Defense Language school have moved to CA?
Valerie, I hope Wes gets to class up with the all the Crises this next week. Maybe he will get to move back to his room then and be ready to move forward with his learning.
Rene, I'm sorry your daughter is going through a rough period. I don't know all the details yet since I've not seen all the paperwork involved but the TAA and ATAA grants for retraining are Federal grants. If the company does not apply for the grant then 3 or more workers may apply for it. From the little bit I've read it take several weeks for it to all go through but if she can get in with some of the employees who had been there for a long time she may also qualify for something like that. Maybe you could prod her in the direction of at least going to check it out. Tell her to keep her chin up. Between her brother and her brother-in-law you can't handle anymore right now!! lol

Navy Twins Mom,
I did some searching and there is a group called Destroyer Moms (DDG). Both of your daughter's ships are listed there. If you go to page 9 there is a post there from a mom who is also looking for moms of sailors for Jess's ship. I'm going to try to paste the two posts on here for you.

Comment by Melissa (Tucson) on January 17, 2009 at 5:28pm Hi and welcome Sonia: If you go up in the far right corner, you'll find the search window. Just type in USS Bulkeley and all the discussions of that ship will appear. I just did it and it looks like there are some moms on here with Sailors on that ship! :)

Comment by Sonia on January 17, 2009 at 5:12pm My son is on the USS Bulkeley,,,anyone else have a child on that ship??

Hope this helps - it looks like you can do a search for each individual ship and find any comments for that. Let me know if it works!!

Barb, that's funny. All Brendan's friends go to Carolina schools and my sister went to UCONN! Actually she spent her first year at Johnson and Welles (Providence,RI) but then changed to Huskey land. My former boss was from Conn. and his daughter went back up there to college as well. Chris was JUST beginning to walk when my sister (also Valerie) graduated.
It was funny that when she graduated her final project in fashion design was to make a dress so she decided to make a sleeveless sundress for graduation. When Chris' Dad, myself and Chris left it was 70 degrees, by the time we got to CT the following evening a cold front had come through and it was in the upper 40's at Storres. The next morning we went to the field and there we were in our nice summer clothes and the sleet and freezing rain pouring on us! Valerie said she almost froze with just that thin gown on over the sundress. We laughed over that scene for a few years.

Good Evening my N4M friends!!! First off - welcome back Barbara. So glad you had a nice visit with your son. And we will definately keep him in our prayers for a safe trip and safe assignment to Bahrain. I actually have a nephew over there. He's been there for awhile and likes it. He's getting his college degree while over there. Maybe we can hook him up with Brendan!!

Rene,
WHAT WONDERFUL NEWS FROM JARED!!!!! I am so glad he got the C school - and the one he wanted also!! I am so happy for him and you!!!

Valerie,
Glad you heard from Wes. At least he seems to be hanging in there and is progressing forward - so that has to be good news for you!!!

Mary,
Congrats on the college class. What a great connection to make through the N4M website!!! I'm glad you are able to get some classes in and still get your health insurance. Our family has been without health insurance for almost a year now and it scares me sometimes. Especially what with all we've been through with my Mom and her family. But I just stay away from the cracks in the sidewalks and I'll be OK!!!!!

Valerie i went over to the college and talked to my N4M friend who works there and she signed me up for a class that starts 03/02 and runs through 03/26. It's a basic class in typing, using MSWord, some Excel, and writing resume's.
It is free since I am unemployed and buys me some time as my company says they have applied for a grant that will allowed those laid off to be retrained for free. If the grant is approved by the time I get out of this class in 6 weeks then I can apply for the TAA program and recieve up to 2 years of classes and still be able to draw my unemployment benefits and possibly get my health insurance with them paying up to 65% of the premiums.
It's not helping my retirement account any but maybe the next job will pay well enough to almost make up for what I would lose over the two years. I think I have enough credits that will carry over from previous attempts at college classes that I may be able to finish up in just over a year and a half anyway. I never would have known about the classes though if not for N4M. That's how I met her. Her son is on the Vella Gulf, fighting pirates. Boy is this an awesome site or what?!!
