Thing you learn living in North Carolina:

A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road .

2. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in North Carolina

3. There are 10,000 types of spiders.. All 10,000 of them live in North Carolina , plus a couple no one has ever seen before!

4. If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

5.'Onced' and 'Twiced' are words

6. It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy.

7. 'Jaw-P?' means 'Did y'all go to the bathroom?'

8. People actually grow and eat okra.

9. 'Fixinto' is one word.

10. There is no such thing as 'lunch'. There is only dinner and then there is supper.

11. Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar

12. Backwards and forwards means 'I know everything about you.'

13. The word 'Jeet' is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?'

14. You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

15. You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH them.

MORE THINGS TO LET YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM NORTH CAROLINA :

1. You measure distance in minutes.

2. You've ever had to switch from heat to A/C in the same day.

3. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.

4. You know what a 'DAWG' is.

5. You carry jumper cables in your car for your OWN car.

6. 90% of NC kitchens will have these five spices/condiments: Morton Salt, McCormick Black Pepper, Texas Pete, JFG/Dukes Mayonnaise and Hunts Ketchup.

7. The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and motorsports.

8. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

9. You find 100 degrees Fahrenheit 'a bit warm'.

11. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past time known as 'goin' to Wally World or Wal-Martin'.

12. Fried catfish is the other white meat.

Just a little NC humor thrown your way before I take off to bed.

Valerie,
I know how frustrating it is not to hear from your son. Funny enough - I guess I don't worry about my Chris as much - maybe because he has done this before. He still gives me some things to worry and pray about but certainly not as much as what you dear Moms are going through. But now my daughter is another subject!!!! She doesn't call me when she says she will and she's the one who keeps me up crying myself to sleep!!!!
I did learn something from Chris tonight. There were several students who joined ChrisA and ChrisM's class because they failed unit 4. So our boys were worried going in that it was going to be really difficult. He said that he's pretty sure all of his classmates did well. Valerie I know it's tough - but you have to believe that Wes is OK. At least it can't be anything really bad - I'm sure you'd be getting phone calls if it was. I mean that to be encouraging not scary or mean. Like Mary said - no news is good news?? Hang in there Mom - and keep venting your fears and concerns to us - because that is what we are here for. Prayers and hugs to you!!
Mary,
Thank you for the kind words about ChrisA. He did say that on a couple occasions he will help one of the other students. Just before this last test he was helping another student study a bit. The other guy said it helped. I told ChrisA to keep up the good work!!!
Anyway enough babbling from me - -
Welcome Patti Sue - I am looking forward to learning more about you and your sailor. I love this group of Moms - I hope you feel right at home here!!!

Valerie, another thing to consider is that with it being a holiday weekend maybe Wes felt he could win his way back into the PO's heart if he volunteered to do a few watches so some others could have the long weekend. Chris said that they have to give a 72 hour notice and it has to be approved but maybe he forgot to tell you? Or maybe something happened to someone else and he volunteered at the last minute. As stated before there are a lot of reasons. I'm not even bugging Chris today. I know he has duty and I'm just so thankful and happy that he made it back last night that I'm fine just to know where he is.

Rene, maybe you should take up cross-stitch or knitting to help control the finger withdrawal? I know, I have to fight myself sometimes to not text Chris or call him, especially when I don't hear from him for 3 or 4 days. I can't seem to used to the fact that he is doing fine without my guidance, and blessings on his undertakings. Remember, no news is good news, right?

Patti Sue, welcome! It seems you've figured out how this group works...just jump right in! It's so good to have you with us. Defense Language school, huh? I think we could use some of that too! We just try to find out terminology asking other moms and what we can't find out...we drink some wine and guess at it! lol just kidding! We do try to have some fun in here, express our concerns and try to comfort and support each other. Especially in the jobs our kids have chosen we need others to lean on. It's great to have someone here whose sailor is in a "different" type of intelligence.
My son has talked about going eventually to the Foreign Language school to learn Greek and hopefully be stationed then in Greece to further his training. Way to go Patti Sue! Good job getting him where he is (at least helping him get there).

Valerie, maybe Wes dropped his phone and broke it or lost it and does not realize it. You know Mom, there are many reasons he may not be answering. I do hope you hear from him soon. I know it gives you cause to worry.

Thanks everyone for letting me have my whine (or is it wine?) session last night. And thank you for having some wine for me, I didn't dare have any in case I had to drive 300 or 400 miles during the night to get him back to base. He's never driven more than 2 1/2 hours at a time before and that was with another car following/leading him. I was so scared. I think he would have been but he was too tired to think about it.

Dawn, I'm so glad you are enjoying Christopher there. I know those 14 days will fly by. Then it will be nearing time to pack to go see "the big khahuna" (sp?). Let the good times roll, baby!

Everyone have a good evening!
Btw Anna, In case I've not said it before I believe your Chris has had a positive influence on my Chris. Now my Chris actually studies (not as hard a Jared but he studies) which is a major improvement over hs. Thanks!

Mary,
I'm so glad Chris made it back OK. I know how those really short trips are. ChrisA came home for two days at Christmas and it was hard to see him off again. It's OK to come on here and "wine" - I drink some for you too!!! :)

Thanks Rene, He did arrive safely back at 3:20 this morning. I called him around 2:15 and he said his GPS was showing an ETA of 3:13. From 3:13 to 3:20 was like an eternity but I told him to call home when he was in the parking lot and the car was in park. That only gave him a little over 2 hours to sleep until time to muster for duty. I guess it's safe to say he will sleep much of the morning. Thank God he is there though.
Anna, I did tell him that you said for him to be careful, thanks.
I'm tired from being up all night but everyone have a wonderful Sunday.

Good evening Ladies. I just thought I'd come and whine for a moment. I'm really missing my kid and praying so hard that he makes it back safely tonight.

Barbara, that really is great news about the young girl and the baby. I'm so glad that she made the right choice and handed the baby over. This way, he/she can have a good life and maybe she can move in a more positive direction with hers as well. I hope you have a safe trip to Norfolk. Let us hear about it when you return and have time.

To the rest of you, have a good night, I hope your Valentine's Day went well. Rene and Valerie, it sounds as though Jared and Wes may both be on the right track again. Yipeee!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!!

Dawn, I am so glad Chris made it home. Tell him God Speed as he goes off to his next duty station - but for now - enjoy being home, relax and have some fun!!
Rene, I got goose bumps reading your post. Prayer really does work and I am so happy for Jared and will continue praying for his strength and motivation to continue going forward. He sounds like a really hardworking, dedicated young man.
Mary, I'm so happy Chris made it home safely and is enjoying catching up with friends and family. I hope he enjoys his visit. Tell him the other Chris's Mom said to drive safely going back!!!! Stay alert - I hope he doesn't drive back too tired!!!
Valerie, I love your picture!!! It gave me a good laugh. And I continue to pray for Wes's peace and strength to get thru his struggles. And I'm really praying he gets classed back up this coming week!!!!
I'm off to bake a cake for my Valentine hubby!!! He's taking me out to dinner tonight!!!
Everyone have a wonderful day!!! Hugs to all -- Anna

Valerie, The pic is adorable! I loved it.
Rene, Chris rolled in with my neice in tow around 8:00 last night, hungry and tired. After my mom and neice left he went out with a friend from school, got home around midnight and I got him up around 9:00 this morning when another friend called. After breakfast, which he thought was wonderful, the neighbors came over and now he has another friend on the way over to see him. He's goin to see some more friends this afternoon and then out for dinner with friends. I suppose he will be back on the road by 7:00 tonight. That will put him in sometime around 1:30- 2:00am. Back up at 6:00 for duty muster. His g/f took off so he's not going to see her this week. It's ok, he's having fun with other friends.
Dawn, I'm so glad Christopher is back home safely. Enjoy him while he's able to be there.
