Rene, Chris pulled a better one than that on me. He said, " I'm going with the recruiter Monday evening down to MEP's and take my physical and then I'm going to look and see what ia available". He called on Monday night and said his best friend had not done so well on the ASVAB and wanted to retake it in a few weeks so I didn't worry any more. The next morning he called home and said, "My eyesight is not quite good enough to be a pilot unless they will let me have LASIK surgery to correct it". I was relieved. Five hours later he and his buddy got back to the house and I was talking to his friend and Chris says, "I signed on for Intelligence". I damn near dropped to the driveway. All I could do was ask him when he was leaving and he said mid November. I ran and looked on the calendar and came back out and said, "So you won't be home for Thanksgiving OR Christmas?" I asked him if we could negotiate and he said, "Mom, I knew it would be too emotional for you so I went ahead and got sworn it today." So I got to cry my little heart out for 5 months. And then bc started and I cried more. He does seem to enjoy what he is learning but at the beginning of this week he said, "I don't know if my little brain can hold this much information!"
Rene, I hope Jared will be able to come home between schools as well especially since he will likely be returning home after "C" school anyway. I would like for Chris to be able to have leave between schools but I also know he is close enough I can go see him every couple of months. Besides I would like to see him before he has to leave for his assignment in case it is someplace like Guam or a sub stationed in Washington. As always though, we will take what we can get.
Now it's my turn to get laundry done. Grrr. I don't think Chris would like it if I show up tomorrow butt-naked. I have a couple more thing to get together for him as well. Have a good morning everyone!

Yeah!! Congratulations to Dawn's Chris!!! We are all beginning to see what it has taken for him to get that rating patch! Bravo Zulu Chris! What did Chris mean by which is the better ship? Crew wise? Electronics and equipment? Commanding officer? Food and "amennities"? I'm just wondering what these guys are looking for when they are given choices.

You know? I've always heard that the NEX has pretty good deals on some of their stuff so I used Chris' SSN to see what their "sales" for this week are and I didn't see anything that looked like a "deal". I'm sure there were a couple of things there that I could buy at Best Buy or Wal-mart just as chep if I get them on sale at those places. I did see 2 TVs that looked like a decent price but I don't think he's that far along yet. The good part of school is that I don't have to worry about him watching TV and trying to study at the same time!

But Mary - since Jared isn't on a ship we can't use the plank yet. Toothpicks was the closest I could come up with!!! So I guess we can't compare notes!!

Rene, did you really think you had anything to worry about with Jared's brief? Come on!
Comment by Anna on February 5, 2009 at 7:00pm
Rene,
Great news!!! Thank you! And I'll put away my toothpicks I was going to use to make you "talk"!! I'll have to tell Jared you did good!! ha-ha

Vikki,
I'm sure we can find you professional help for that previous post of yours!!
But I needed the laugh so it was good! I figured you were just trying to "ham" it up because you don't have a son named Chris!!
Thank you for all your kind words ladies. I really feel such a close kinship to all of you. I was doing OK yesterday until I called my sailor daughter in WA and then just couldn't stop the tears. Suddenly I was reliving all those days with my mom all over again. I had just gotten to the point where I could talk about my mom without choking up. But it will be OK - I know it just takes time. I haven't told my Chris yet. I don't want to give him any bad news until the weekend. Not going to mess with his weekly stuff at all. In one of our phone calls last week Chris was telling me about learning the platforms. And he did say not only the enemies but with domestic terrorism they need to know ours also. I kind of got the impression it was more than just ships but don't really know a whole lot about it. There is probably alot of that they just can't tell us about. I guess we sure can't help them study can we?!?!?!?!
Valerie, how did your mom's appointment go?
