Rene,
I agree with your comments about just how much the other moms on this group are so special!! Friends that I have known since my kids were little do not understand what it is like to send them off to far-off corners of the world. When my oldest left for college he was still coming home for the holiday breaks and over the summer, but when your child goes off to the military it can be a LONG time before you get to see them again. And they grow up so fast - it's like one day they need you and the next they're doing everything on their own!!!
Vikki - we need to do multiple comments to cover everything!! Can I borrow your cue cards??!?!?

Hello ladies,
Just got a chance to get on my computer and catch up with everyone. I did get a chance to talk to my Chris last night. He said this A school is more involved than even he was expecting but he is looking forward to getting into it more. He passed his first test but not as well as he would have wanted to. He did mention that he did not feel there was as much Instructing as he would like. Have any other sons (Chris or otherwise) have similar concerns?
Mary, I'm glad our two Chris's have been able to spend time together. My son got quite a chuckle when I told him us Mom's were talking to each other!!! He's a little worried now!!!! I will have to check more into the late night back to base. I seem to remember Chris telling me something about that but I don't remember the details. I'm sure once they start getting into the more challenging areas of school they will be spending more time "hitting the books" and won't have time to get in trouble. By the way - who is Chris P?

Mary,
I'll try to help you if I can - somethings have changed since I was in - somethings remain the same. But I'm certainly NO expert that's for sure. It's a shame that Chris didn't have the info about getting into the 900 division for bootcamp. I'm sure he was disappointed about that!! What Chris was probably referring to as far as "the next round" is that promotion tests are given several times for each rank. So if you are not ready for one test you just have to wait until the next time it comes around and take it then. Just like if you don't pass the test you wait until the next one and take it again. Also, just because you pass the test doesn't mean you are automatically promoted. It can be 3 months or more before your promotion goes thru. My little claim to fame I have is that when I was enlisted I was an OS (Operations Specialist). The rate had just opened up for women so when I took the test for E4 I passed it the first time. But when my actual promotion went through there was a female in NV that got promoted first - my captain came to me to say "Congratulations your the Second female in the history of the Navy to be promoted OS3". Oh well - that was my 5 seconds of fame!!!

Vikki,
When my son got out he couldn't find a job that he really wanted. He's always wanted to get into law enforcement (even back when he was still in High School). For awhile he was working with the sheriff's department when we lived in GA. But as an AO he didn't have the "cop" experience most departments were looking for when he tested for a position. So that's why he decided to go back in and he figured IS would give him more of the skills he needs for the future. He spent his whole 4 years attached to a squadron out of Oceana, VA but they did two deployments to the Gulf - one on the Geo. Washington and the other on the Enterprise. Chris was a red shirt on the flight deck. Not something mom wanted to think about too often!!!
