Linda,

If he completed his qualifications and time in rate then he would be ready to take the second class test.  And if he passed then he would advance!!!  Good job for him!!!  How long has he been in?  My son made second class within his first 4 years. It can be done!!

By the way, today (Friday) and yesterday, the bases here in Norfolk and Virginia Beach were shut down.  Only mission essential personnel had to report.

My sailor graduated C school about 5 years ago.  At that time, there wasn't a ceremony for A school.  He was handed a certificate and given a few days off.  We visited him but there wasn't a ceremony.

For C school, we did attend a small ceremony.  Less than a dozen graduated. He was given his duty assignment at graduation.  We wee able to chat with a few officers and other family members for about 15 minutes.

Then we waited in the parking lot for our sailor as he finished clearing out his room.  He was able to take a week or so of leave before he had to report to his new assignment.

It was a great time but we had to make sure we had room for all of his stuff in our vehicle.  Then off he went.
