Hi everyone!
Our son was Commissioned in May & has orders to report in November.
Most of his belongings are at our home. He only has a small amount of his stuff at the apartment where he is living while being "stashed" by the Navy before he reports.
Did any of your Ensigns have their belongings packed up & moved by the Navy from YOUR home after they were commissioned?
Do you have any tips or suggestions for me to help this process ... for example, how to ensure they only pack his stuff & not any of ours; where & how (boxed, bagged, piled?) would it be best to "collect" his stuff for the packing process, etc ??
Is it true that even if he packs some of the stuff (for instance, clothes that will be stored; hobbies stuff; tools in tool bags ) the Navy movers will unpack & re-pack it all??
Anything else i should know??
thanks for your assistance!!
peace & joy to you all

Thank you so much for all the tips, everyone!!
Paymaster, i really appreciate all the detailed tips & suggestions. That is very helpful since i've never been a part of anyone moving, without the family doing it!! I'd better start working on an inventory....
Jn/Jn Mom....Your more than welcome, I learned from the best, my mom. My dad spent 24 years in the Marines. Mom could have a house organized and packed in 24 hours. One time when I was about 4 I went to bed and my room was full and normal, when I woke the next morning the only thing left in the room was the bed I was sleeping in and the clothes that she wanted me to wear that morning laying across the foot of my bed. Everything else had been packed up during the night. I miss my mom and dad! Best of luck, Just remember they are working for you and don't let them buffalo you, they always try to do it the easy way, not always the right way.
What is his job between May and November? Is November is training start date?
He was "stashed" at a NROTC unit until he got orders for school. There were some odd jobs here & there, but nothing too intense. He moved in Nov. Started school in December.
ok. Makes sense. I didn't realize there was that much time before getting a school date.
It wasn't that way a few years ago when our daughter was commissioned, but this past year almost everyone in his Unit was stashed for at least 2-3 months. The demands of the Navy, i guess.
