My son is graduating from college in December and will be reporting to OCS on January1, 2012.  He will then continue on to Nuke School.  I am glad to have found this site so I can learn about the future of my son, and also be of support of others who may need.

Welcome, OkSuzy. I was just where you are 3 years ago. My son graduated in the spring and then went to OCS in Rhode Island in July. He finished in September. Just remember, that your son WILL finish. My son then went to Nuke school in Charleston for a year and is now in Seattle on a boomer (sub).

Will your son be surface or sub?

Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Boomer as well.  OCS Graduation is in three weeks!  I am SO excited!

My son is in OCS right now-he will be one of the candidates who introduce your son to OCS on the first 3 days until their DI takes over on Wednesday.  I highly encourage you (when it gets closer) to join the facebook group for his class-it has been very helpful.  Other members (those with LO in classes above) are great about updating when phone calls come, when emails get activated etc.

Thank you doenglish!  I will join fb and keep up with his class then.   Nice, your son will be there when mine is!  I definitely want to keep close touch to see what the ropes are.  TY!

Oksuzy- this is info you will need.  Your son is in class 08-12.  This will need to be on all mail.  08-12 is also how people start facebook groups.  I didn't get my son's class number until 3 weeks into it and we got our first letter, subsequently he went 4 weeks without mail from home.

Our son graduated from OCS March 11, 2011, the day of the Sunami in Japan and that was where his station was Sasebo, Japn.  They held them up for several months, but he has been out to sea as a SWO on the USS Essex for several months and really miss hearing from him.  Take in everything you can about OCS and don't miss any of the activities at graduation.  I can honestly say it was the proudest moment of my life!!!

Ty doenglish for my son's class number!  i will look for it on facebook. Happy Veterans Day everyone!...and a HUGE thank you to all who have served!

Great to "meet" you!  I have not yet seen a Facebook Page for the class.  Let's keep in touch and hopefully we can be support to each other!

If there is no facebook site yet, I suggest you join another class.  That way you can get the lay of the land.  Next week is Cadio for the 05-1`2 class- I had no idea what that meant or how important it is.  It's when the candidates get to receive packages in the mail: they're called Cadio boxed - let me tell you there is a lot of work that goes into these (decorating, filling etc).  If it weren't for other facebook cites I would have been clueless.  In addition there is always info on when that first phone call will come, when they get email, graduation info. You may want to try the 04-12, 05-12, 06-12 clases.  The 06 class is has their RLP inspection this Thursday - another very stressful day.  Good luck.

Thank you!  I am also hoping a fb class for us will still be formed...we have a few weeks yet.

OkSuzy, welcome aboard. Lots of us Moms who have been through the OCS process. There will always be someone to answer a question or share their experience with you.  You may be fortunate to link up with other parents with loved ones in the 1-1-2012 class, and that will be extra special as you will then be able to meet them in person at graduation/commissioning.  All the best to you and yours.

Thank you for the super warm welcome navymominohio!
