Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

As for Candio boxes, I don't know that any more than the one is allowed. Also, there simply isn't time to consume or do much with another box as they will be preparing to leave Newport most likely. I wouldn't do it.
As for commissioning, you will find words of wisdom somewhere on this website. In short, be sure you have a room reserved either at the Gateway or a nearby hotel. Be prepared for a whirlwind of activity as your son or daughter makes this transition. If you are offered the chance to go at 5AM to watch the candidates do PT, do it! It gives you a glimpse of how they have started their day for the last 10 weeks. Be in the moment of every event you attend; it will go by quickly and will likely be very emotional for everyone. Lastly, please arrive very early to the ceremony. No matter how early you think you are, there will be people there before you! Take lots of pictures and don't be afraid to ask others to take some of you and your loved one. You will, however, have access to professional pictures shortly after commissioning, so be sure to ask your LO. They will also have had a chance to preorder some sort of package with that photographer.
All this being said, my LO commissioned 09/13, so it's always possible some things have changed.

Miss Deb: I would agree with td309, one Candio box is probably enough; although I think they are allowed to receive unlimited mail in weeks 10-12 at OCS. They receive so much food and share it around with all. My son said there was no way they could eat it all, so lots of it got tossed out in the end.
As for graduation week, I would echo the advice to arrive very early to things to get good seats. There was standing room only for my son's graduation 3 yrs ago. They usually have a Pass in Review ceremony on Thursday before graduation in which the candidates march in formation and demonstrate their rifle drill. You won't want to miss that.
There is also a group here on N4M's called "OCS Graduate Moms." You may want to join that group also, and read the discussion topics and posts about OCS graduation.
