My son has been at Meridian since Saturday he called tonight and sounded discouraged. He's not classing up until 4/26, and seems that they had "watch" today (him and a few others), they were disciplined for having cell phones and boots not being buffed enough. Someone told him AZs are held to a higher standard, does anyone know if that's true? Did anyone else's sailor feel this way during the first week of school? I feel like I did after receiving the 1st call from bootcamp:( I read through some of the old posts here and copied them in an email to him, so he could read that others have been there, and to stay positive. I'm hoping its just an adjustment period to the new environment. I needed to vent and thankful for this venue to do so.

Peggy and Mimi thank you so much for the great info. We are going to take him into Chicago for lunch and he wants to go to the Sears Tower too. My tissues are packed along with my binoculars:) So very proud and excited for all our young men and women who will have PIR next Friday, what an accomplishment for each of them.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi All

We received the "I am a Sailor" call today....WooHoo, I could hear the pride in his voice. He's looking forward to going to A school, said he'll be working out with the Marines until his AZ classes start on 4-19. Didn't realize there were Marines stationed in Meridian as well. PIR 4-9, grad and go so I'll be at the airport very early in the a.m. to see him off. Can't wait to see our sailor !!!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Just got the semi-bad news that he could be in "A" for 2-3 months due to backlogs. So the process hasn't changed much. Anyway, being able to speak to him daily is a relief........which makes it "not so bad at all."

Hubby arrived at "A" school in Meridian yesterday for "AZ". The first 4 days are processing days so the count down doesn't start until next Monday for me. Finally, 8 more weeks and he can come home. Yippee!
