I believe toward the end after they test out. One of the moms on here said her son finished top of his class so he was able to choose which squadron and location.

When do they get their orders as to where they will be stationed?  My son is in A school now and should finish up the first of March.

I'm not sure but most I have contacted did end up in San Diego. So I'm thinking that as well. Frankly anything stateside would be fine with me.

If memory serves me right, I thought I saw something on here that most AZ's go to San Diego. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

I don't know if we will get all the way to Japan.  Getting from Arkansas to California is an ordeal for me.  I went to Japan when I was in college, spent three week there touring.  It was wonderful, it's a beautiful country.  It was a wonderful experience, and I know this will be great for him.

David's Mom - we visited our son in Atsugi in November. Japan is an interesting place to live, and Atsugi seems like a very nice base - I'm sure he will like it there. It's an adventure!

San Diego is great!  We lived in San Marcos, north of San Diego, and still have family in that area.  My husband and I did get out there in October to visit.  It was nice, but I don't miss that freeway traffic!  OR THOSE GAS PRICES!!!

Lita - my son is aircraft - he wanted choppers, but as 3rd in class, the guy before him picked that slot.  He's still happy because it's San Diego for a first stop

It was near the end, they are ranked by scores and they choose from the assignments availible.  First in class gets first choice, etc.  David was top in his class, and selected a helocopter squadron based in SD, he didn't know they were planning the move to Japan.

He chose helo's because, " ...they go more places than fixed wing aircraft."
