David's Mom - your son is doing well. Congrats. I hoped son follows in his foot steps. I think I will feel good too with email access. Do you remember how soon into A school did he find out where he was going?

My son will be leaving for Atsugi in February.  He'll be so far away!  He's been in San Diego since finishing deployment on the Abe Lincoln.  He loves it there, but is excited to go overseas.  He says he'll spend half his time on the George Washington and half on base.  He also was 'Pinned' in early November.  He enjoys he's work, and I like the fact that he's at a computer with an email address!

Hey Marmee. That's cool. We are scheduled to graduate 2/1. It seems most AZ go to San Diego. I would be fine with that. What is he attached to? Jets or Choppers?

just joining this group.  My son is AZ and as I type this he is on his way to first duty station in San Diego.  Glad to find an AZ group.

He is in Atsugi, Japan with a squadron. He just returned from a deployment on the USS George Washington. He had been an Undesignated Airman, so he is happy to have both a rate and to become a Petty Officer! He doesn't think his day to day job will change too much.

Question? My son is AZ. Leaving Dec 5th. It says first tour 48 months at sea and then it says 48 months on shore. Sooooo dumb question....... Does he go out to Sea 4 yrs and port here and there or does he go 6 months to Sean then home 6 months? I guess what I'm asking is is he always at sea or does he have some life on land? Like if he makes rank can he get an apartment. Will be able to live a life off the ship?

Anyone out there willing to share what a day in the life of an AZ is?
