Hey Jennifer - just wondering how your husband is doing in boot camp? Should be getting close to PIR? Bet your excited!
Thank you Jennifer
Well, he finally made it to San Deigo just this week. His squadron was deployed at the time he joined, so, after his leave he was flown out to the carrier. Short deployment for him, just 2 and a half months. Now he'll attend 'C' school. We will get out to CA to see him in the fall. I would have loved to have seen the carrier come in to Norfolk, but can't afford two vacations. And in CA we have family to stay with. Cheaper, so we'll be able to stay longer.
and ditto re: more women in command - no matter what the field!
Not a problem with the spell check - made for interesting reading! Lots of information in there & will take time to digest. So I'm sure I will be asking many more questions. Sorry to hear that it wasn't a positive experience for your sailor. But it sounds like he has had wonderful support from you & will continue to have it when he is done. I wish you & him all the best. Thanks for responding
Thank you MIMI - I'm going to try the question again. My son went through MEPS, will leave for BC in Oct. He will be an AZ. I know his duties will be clerical in nature. He wants to spend time on the flight deck & "see the world" We've been drilling into him to do well in A school so he can have a better pick. My brother, who served 30 plus years ago is concerned he won't be on the flight deck much if at all. This is not what the recruiter has been telling him though - he keeps saying an AZ basically does everything. Based on his ASVAB & what was available at the time of MEPS, he felt this was his best choice. Any thoughts, what are the duties of an AZ & how much time is spent below deck as opposed to on top?
the thought of those jets crashing horrifies me. Back in the early '90's we lived in Escondido and I worked in San Diego and commuted to work down the I-15. The 'Diamond' lane (car pool lane) began/ended near Mira Mar. So, my commute home meant crawling through the bottle-necked traffic right there next to the NAS (which is now a Marine Air Station). Those jets would be coming in to land, right over the 5 North bound lanes packed with cars. The sound would send chills down my spine, I'd have goose-bumps all over, and could hardly breathe! And I knew in my heart that if the jet did plow into the freeway ducking my head wouldn't save me, but I did it anyway!
There is a lot to love about San Diego County. Traffic is not one of them!
Thank-you Peggy,
Yes, he will enjoy San Diego, and we will enjoy visiting him there! We are from the North County area, and have family all over the place. David's buddy, that he enlisted with, is already stationed there, as are a few new friends he's made at RTC and A-School.
Hello to all
My son will be graduating A-School in Meridian next week. He will be able to come home for a visit, then he's off to San Diego! He has chosen a helicopter squadron. Just what he wanted!
I am so anxious to see him, and he's anxious to get to SD!
Thank you for responding. 7-10 days seems like a good amount of time to move. The whole moving to another state process is just sort of confusing to me but I guess I will figure it out as things start happening.
Yea that's what I hear, top of class gets first pick. I have a rough list of which places I would like and which ones I would like to avoid in case I do get to pick. I usually do very well in school so I think I will do well. It seems to me that most people going in to the military are right out of high school so I feel since I am 6-7 years older than them I will have an advantage. I think I will be a lot more focused. Cant wait to update you all on what happens to me :)
