OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

HI, I'm not sure what DAR is. My daughter went in 7 years ago as undesignated. I think a lot has changed since then with the Undesignated program. Is he wanting to get out of joining the Navy or just get out of being Undesignated?

Oh no...he definitely wants to stay in the navy. We've just heard so much negative about going in undesignated he wants to go in with a specific job. A DAR is to reclassify. Can you share your daughters experience as undesignated?

I’ll start off by saying everyone’s experience is different. Will he paint, chip paint and clean?, most likely the answer is yes. The Navy puts Undesignated were they need people the most.
My daughter was stationed at Pendleton out of boot camp, she stayed there 4 years. She never painted or did that type of work there. Did she luck out? maybe. When she applied for a rate she wasn't approved a few times due to many things. The Navy has there way of doing things.
I’m not sure of the amount of time, but I do know they have to stay undesignated for a while before they can strike for a rate. Their are a few rates they can just test into…..but then again it all depends on quotas. Let’s say he wants a “mechanics" rate, first he has to be approved by his command, there is only a certain time a month that the requests can be submitted, then he may or may not get approved. That could be due to ASVB test scores, number of persons applying to take the test ect. And the same goes for applying for an A School. If he it’s not approved for whatever reason, he must wait till the next time.
Your sons new friend should be the Career counselor, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. And don’t settle, they will talk a good talk to fill a rate that is undermanned rather then have him wait for the rate he really want.
He needs patients and a good attitude for whatever he is assigned.
My daughter went in Undesignated, she was just 18, I was worried that she would get lost in the system. But she proved herself by asking and trying. It was not real easy for her in the beginning, she was not approved a few times due to overmanning in a rate, then she missed making the percentage for the quota by one point on a test.
I don’t want to sugar coat it or make it sound terrible. It will be frustrating I’m sure. My advice would be……..if you son has a rate he has his heart set on but it’s not open to him, and is told he should go undesignated till it is, then I would tell him to "wait" till he can go in with the rate he wants. If he just wants to be in the Navy with a job then undesignated can work.
My daughter didn’t have the score for the rate she wanted, so she went undesignated, but then again she really wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, so she didn’t have big expectations. My son is also in the Navy, he knew what he wanted, he had the scores and there was an opening. If he had gone undesignated he would have been miserable.
As I say it’s been 7 years, I know things have changed some, but I do know that there are still quotas, tests, and approvals to deal with. And just remember the navy is a job.
All and all my daughter has a had a good experience, she is going to reenlist next year for the second time.

Just pray! If your sailor goes undes and the command has an issue with your sailor, they can keep your sailor there for 4 years. Doesn't matter if they have a college degree, were formerly spc ops, had an almost perfect SAT score, NOPE.... you are stuck. it's a terrible system.

Legally, I regard the contracts as Null and Void. The evidence the Navy is bargaining in bad faith is written into the contract. Navy lawyers have out smarted themselves.

My son is actually in the same exact boat. I'm still waiting to see what happens. His ship date is 14 Dec. and trying to go MAA. Frustrating..so what was the outcome?

My daughter graduates boot camp on 9/19, she to is on the s pact program...she went undesignated because she missed the rate she wanted by a few points...She also has a DAR in for QM, the rate is totally overmanned ...she is very positive going in...her recruiters were very honest with her about what possible duties she may have.....she understands she may be subject to hard work until she gets picked up.She is an E3 she has a couple choices she can test for boatsinmate 6-8 months or she can continue to strike for her a rate... But if her DAR comes available she will be expected to accept that job....
