Hello Navrine-
My daughter has been in Afghanistan since November 09. First, did you use the "special" priority boxes for our military men and women? I know the rate is less. When I send to my daughter, her address would read as follows:
Her name
CFSOCC-A / NKC
APO AE 09356
It does look a bit weird but that is it for her's. Where abouts is your son stationed at in Afghanistan? As for what to send, I would say a few things that she wanted right away was personal hygiene stuff as she indicated the store there didn't have a whole lot and wasn't open many hours (being a girl I'm sure she was more particular on stuff then a guy might be). I would say other stuff to send is what you, as his mother, knows he likes best.... sometimes I even send a lil something that she knows I like best (like my most favorite candy) and her father sends her lil race cars.... to remind her of her mother or times her dad and she had together.
Hope this helps.
P.S I just said a prayer for you and your son.
I found out some didnt know about foxsox.

Heres what they sent me.

Post office ladies can make one crazy. If you look at the website of your son's unit, there is an address listed there, all you do is add you son's name and rank...like "HM Kiddo Smith" at the top of it. He'll get it.
Hello! again what website are referring to, I'm sorry I'm not very computer savvy, until now so I can get info about my son, Thank You very much!
Hi Navine! This is how I sent boxes to my son when he was in Iraq, and he got them all:
(made up name, etc of course):
HN SMITH, JOHN Q.
1ST BATT, 1ST BN, 1ST MAR H&S COSSIP, UNIT 54321
FPO AP 12345-5432
These are some items I sent over the months he was deployed, I'll put what he said he liked the best with a *:

*Baby wipes
*Fox sox
*powdered drink packets (I sent mostly Poweraid packets)
bug repellent wipes
toiletries (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc)
foot and body powders (I sent Gold Bond)
lip balm
sunscreen
Motrin
eye drops (for sandstorms)
*tobacco products and Bic lighters(even though I hated it, they really need it) I left the lighters off the list on the form
snacks (anything that wouldn't melt - nothing with pork in it, as that's not allowed in country)
*games, cards, magazines, books, dvds, puzzles, Frisbee, toys etc (no pornography - again not allowed in country)
T-shirts, underwear
reading light
He asked for Crocs (army green) to use when he showered, so I sent them

I'm sure there was more that I'm not thinking of ri.ght now, but you get the idea. Some moms set up Moto mail accounts and a Spawar Card acct. I didn't know about them at the time. Other ladies will know how to set them up and give you that info. Good luck, God bless you and your brave son.

One good tip that the post office people did give me-

There is a spot that you need to mark on your form what you want done with the box if it is undeliverable for any reason. If you want it sent back to you, you have to pay shipping again. The post office recommended to me that I put in the box "Give to chaplain". That way he can pass out the content to others to enjoy. That way it doesn't get thrown away and you don't have to pay for return shipping.
