I heard from my son who is in country.  I thought the alarm was weirding out on me but realized soon it was him.  It had been a month since I had heard from him so joyful doesn't begin to describe how I felt.  The one thing he shared that might be helpful to other families is the need for socks.  Apparently their socks, even when washed, get all stiff and yukky.  So, the one thing he is asking for in boxes that we send is socks.  They are also having a problem with mice getting to their food at their base, so I thought I would send some things in those tin boxes like we use at Christmas.

It was wonderful hearing from Tom, especially since I was unfortunate enough to watch the news.  Keep all the happy thoughts and let's bring our boys home soon.

Maybe those plastic shoe boxes with tight tops for the mice and food problem? Or pack a large one as the container for the package, then they can put large items in it as well. Can you send mouse bait? What about those net things to hang from the ceiling ( I was going to say trees, but don't know the terrain).

www.foxsox.com, they'll ship free to over seas military..if they aren't in water, then these are the best socks....
TDM is right about the foxsox being the best. My son says that due to lack of laundry facilities in Afghan that cheaper socks are desireable because they just throw them away after a few days anyway. Perhaps you could send one really good pair of foxsox and lots of cheaper white tube socks. I sent 3 or 4 pairs (however many I could get in each box) with every care package I sent each week. I hoped that would give him enough to wear and also share with the other guys. Plastic containers are very nice but mice that are determined will chew through them too. I like the net idea or even mesh tote bags with large handles. Don't know if bait would pass through customs but I bet traps would.
