The Women that's out now is a remake of a 1939 film (orginally a play by Clare Boothe Luce) with Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, and Rosalind Russell. Knowing the "Mommie Dearest" future awaiting Crawford, it's fun to see her get her come uppance in the old version! And Rosalind, as always, is a stitch!

I'm eager to see the new version 'cuz I'm such a fan of Candice Bergen and Bette Midler... I used to adore Meg Ryan, but her face is now 1/10 as emotive as it used to be (lips have obviously been worked on and Botox keeps her forehead from moving). Not trying to be catty, I just mourn the loss of her expressions -- they were so much part of her characterizations.

I liked National Treasure and National Treasure 2. What is The Women about?

I haven't seen 27 dresses yet. My daughter is too far away to do chick flicks with her any more. One summer we watched a few, I can only remember French Kiss right now. I like Meg Ryan. Tonight You've Got Mail was on. Also, Sidney Poiter in To Sir, With Love. I like that one alot, too. Did any of you watch Enchanted? My husband went with me to see that. I liked it because it was light hearted and had a happy ending.

Mimi, for a good old b/w, funny film: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House

It stars Cary Grant and Myrna Loy as a couple building a house in the country, so they can move out of a condo in the city. If you've ever built a home, this film is even funnier!

Evening girls, I just found this site also. Sounds like fun. My navy son said I should go see Bolt. He liked it. My husband and I went to see Iron Man when it came out and this weekend we watched it on DVD a few times. I liked it. I LOVED Mama Mia. Can't wait to get the DVD. One of my favorite movies to watch on TV (and it was on tonight) is Steel Magnolias. Always makes me laugh and cry.

Good idea, Mimi! I think I will!

The Duchess is just out on DVD now. Good historical film; NOT a love story... even my husband liked it.

Hi, Ladies! I'm new to this group... just found it! I'm a total movie fan... my dad got into film the way some men get into baseball (memorizing stats, reading trade journals, etc.) He was taking me to foreign films when I was a teenager. Talking about movies is my favorite conversation!

Just FYI, for those of you with kids still at home, here's a great movie review website: www.kids-in-mind.com It's the best system I've ever found for choosing films for my kids.

The last movie I saw was The Duchess. Definitely not a happy story, but such a well-crafted film... sumptuous costumes and wigs. And "real" acting from Keira Knightly! Hugs, k.

Nikky--you could probably write a movie right now!
Thanks to Willette for helping out Mimi while I was with my sailor.
Watched Billy Elliott last night on tv. What a simple story about a child in England pursuing a dream. Some of the dialogue was hard to understand (British, of course) but the love of the family and teacher in this movie was outstanding. I had never heard of it before--so I am glad the description was accurate on the channel's review.

Regarding Marley and Me
I have not seen the movie, but while commuting back and forth to Indianapolis for a couple of weeks, listened to the book on tape. It was read by the author! Truly a great sanity saver while driving. I would recommend it (this should probably be on the book review page, but oh well)
