Hello everyone, I am the fiance of sailor who is currently in A school at NAS Pensacola. He will be graduating in the next couple of weeks and heading to C school in VA. But after that, he will be stationed in Jacksonville NAS for two years. I am in nursing school with my graduation set in December of next year (2014) and that is also when we plan on getting married. I live in MS and he will be traveling here for a church wedding. Then I plan on going back with him to Jax. I'm just confused about a few things. He is applying for his automatic advanced placement this week and will be E-4 by the time we get married. I've heard that since he will be moving there alone, he'll be forced to stay in unaccompanied sailor barracks on base. How is the best way for us to go about getting an apartment for the both of us? Can he just tell them that he's about to get married and they let him move off base? Or do we have to officially be married before they let him move? Also, does anyone have some tips for living in Jax? Anything would be appreciated. Especially the best locations to live. Since neither of us are from that area. We're only going to be looking for a one bedroom apartment, and we will want to get a pet.

My oldest sailor is stationed here at NAS JAX and we also live here. We have been here just over 2 1/5 yrs. There are lots of places to live some good some not so good. My son lives in an apt off Beach Blvd. He likes it on that side of the water. We both started out in Middleburg. We still live in Middleburg which is below the base. Some areas of Orange Park are good and closer to the base. Fleming Island is also a good place to live as well as Middleburg. Just depends on how far you want to drive. We found our first place on a web site called militarybyowner.com. It has houses and apts for sale and rent from others in the military. I believe E4 can live off base married or not. He may want to stay on base to start with until you move here so he can get used to the area. There are also several real estate places that have places to rent. When it gets closer and if you need help finding a place let me know. I can see what I can do.

Wow. This post is so close to my son's situation. He is getting married August 10. He is currently stationed in Pensacola and just got his orders that he will be going to Jacksonville in September. His future wife is a nursing major and plans on finishing her degree at Jacksonville State. They plan on living off base and want some place safe. We are planning going down at the end of August to scope out apartments. I will let you know what we find out. I have heard Fleming Island is a good place so we will definitely check that out.
Thanks navymom3. My son and his new wife were able to find a house in Middleburg to rent. Very nice area and they both feel really good about moving there. Thanks for the advice!
I am glad they found a place. there were lots for rent in our neighborhood. we live in copper gate. just off blending. if they need anything let me know.
