Pam, 

Great!  JAX is in your back yard.  We're in Indiana, but we made marathon-drives to both P'cola and JAX.  Now our son is stationed at NASWI, though deployed, and that requires much planning and an airline.  I'm excited for you! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Thanks ReneeBC!  We are looking forward to having our son in the same time zone for the first time in nearly 6 years by the time he makes his way to JAX. We live in Atlanta, so not too far. His first two 1/2 years were spent in Italy and then 3 years in Hawaii. Coming stateside will be sooo nice!

Hi, Pam.

It is active, but it has periods that are more active than others.  Some of us had kids at C school there and a few have kids assigned there as their duty station.  We like to keep in touch with one another.  Welcome to JAX.

HI all.  Can anyone tell me if this group is active?  My son will be heading to JAX to work in the hospital there next year.  He's a Corpsman and has been in for over 5 years.

Great info about Whidbey...my son requested it but got JAX instead.  I know so many mom's whose kids get stationed on the opposite coast from their family.

Glad to help.  March will be a better time to travel across country than when my son made the trip, which was during a December Montana blizzard.  I imagine she will encounter snow, but not blizzard conditions.  I'd suggest adding a couple of extra days to the travel time, just in case she needs it.  And save money for the ferry to Whidbey Island.  :)

It's good that she'll have friends there.  It's a pretty tight-knit community there.  Fair winds and following seas to your girl!

Thanks for the info.
We live about 20 miles east of Cleveland, OH in the snowbelt so used to digging out of lake effect snow! My daughter will be excited about the weather up there.
She will be making the cross country drive so that she can have her car up there. I'm a little nervous about that but she's insistent
I know another navy mom who's son is up there too. Her son was at boot camp and A school with my daughter at NAS Pensacola Then he went straight up to Whidbey She will finish up in JAX the first week in March.

Welcome!

My son really likes the Island, and, of course, Seattle is close enough to hit cool stuff on the weekends. (The island is the largest island of the lower 48 states.)  If you are from a cold-winter state, the coastal Washington winters are wonderful.  45 degrees on average.  If it snows, it's gone by the time the sun comes out.   Public transportation is free on the island, which we found amazing.  My son has his car, but my daughter flew out to see the baby brother this summer and she used the shuttle to go all over the island to sightsee while he was working.

The only thing I dislike is that he's a three-day drive or a pricey airline ticket away.  JAX and P'Cola were a one-day drive, which we drove A LOT.  ;)

There isn't a Whidbey-Mom/parent group.  Perhaps I should start one. :)

My daughter is currently at JAX and will complete C-school in March. ATI Heading up to Whidbey after that. Renee, how does your son like it up there?

Glad you saw you sailor for Christmas, Jim.  

I'm just slogging through winter.  I'm more active and social when I can feel my feet.  LOL.  My son (AWV) is approaching 3yrs and is in the 1st squadron out of Whidbey Island.

Welcome aboard new navy moms (families)!  Bravo Zulu to NACCS, A-school, and C-school grads.
