My husband and I are trying to plan being at our son's Winging in Pensacola sometime between April and early May.  Just trying to learn if there is a typical day for this ceremony.

So happy to be a part of this group!!

Dear MissyMom:

Congratulations and welcome. Because classes often get disrupted, delayed, etc., to my knowledge there are no "official" winging dates, but your DS should know about a month out. I highly recommend that as soon as he gets a date, you have him book a room for you at the Navy Lodge. P'Cola is an "open" base, so you can come and go even when he is not with you. Interestingly enough, security wants to see driver's licenses even if you have a passport, which I find odd.

The Lodge is inexpensive, but it is right on the beach and lovely. It's by far the best of the Lodges we've stayed in here and overseas. Your son will have to be with you when you check in.

Enjoy this very special event!

Hey Marianne!  Thank you for the lodging insight!

Do you know if the ceremony usually happens on a Friday? Or another day of the week?

My daughter's Winging was on a Friday.  I think that is pretty standard, but I do think I remember hearing of one of her friend's Winging being changed to a Thursday because of a holiday. I  do think that is the exception though.

Congratulations on your son's accomplishments and enjoy your time with him. The festivities and ceremonies associated with Winging are beautiful.  I'm glad you are planning ahead to be there!

Thank you for sharing the information. My DS is in the final stages and we hope winging this summer. I am a planner and it is hard for me not to know the exact date. Learning to be flexible!

My DS's was also on a Friday, which I think is the norm. The actual ceremony was at 1 followed by a cake/punch reception at the Officer's Club. There was a morning family tour beforehand.

That evening it's tradition that the class goes out together, so we just had an early family dinner.

As OSUMom said, the ceremonies are lovely and it's so nice to celebrate all the hard work they've done. I could barely see through my tears when I pinned those wings on!

Enjoy!
