Congratulations to everyone who attended wingings. They are awesome events! I cried at my son's, I was so proud of him and what he has accomplished. Good luck to your children as they move on to their next assignments. Ooooorah! Go Navy! Go Pilots!

Leslie...I can sympathize with you on this and will pray for YOU. I had that kind of year 3 years ago. Chris was in Primary and tore his ACL. He was out for 8 months in rehab. He was a bear to deal with especially since he had to work extra hard to get back the original strength in his legs so he could handle the foot peddles and fly again. 3 months later his sister tore her ACL and had to sit out her senior year on the soccer team when they were going for the state championship. So, again I say ... best of luck and my prayers.

Congrats DJ!!!!!!

Our son's carrier quals (Sept) and deployment (Oct.) have now been delayed by the Navy till Dec and Jan. I hate the up and down emotions of getting ready, then delay, then get ready, then delay ... However, the good news: we booked our trip for the whole family to fly up to NAS Whidbey Island to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday together! We'll even get to see him "bouncing." Have a great day everyone!

Our son was married at the time he solo'd and we got the letter.

DJ ... my son recommended Wings, a store in Pensacola FL. http://www.flywings.com/ That's the store I told you also had the great pen and ink drawings of the jets and helos the kids are training on. My daughter-in-law also said that some of the finer jewelry stores in the towns near bases also carry them. My son chose to go with the ones provided by the Navy. At $395. each they were more than any one of us could afford. He did, however, buy a small wings on a necklace for his wife who has supported him throughout his career (they just celebrated their 4th anniversary. By the way, for any of you with married sailors, they also recognize the spouses for their support and gave them a certificate on winging day, too! The Navy does do somethings very well, Bev M!

I just found the site. It is "The Flight Deck" store. It is the store at the museum in Pensacola. I am pretty sure that the 3" is the correct size for winging.

I believe that you can order the wings over the internet by checking for "Wings of Gold". There were a couple of the pilots in my son's winging that got the 24k ones but the majority got the ones provided by the Navy. I asked Mike and he preferred the ones from the Navy. I guess it is personal choice.

Bev M. our son got a letter. I don't know if it's because of the commander at the time. He didn't get one for flying his solo at Whiting. He was one of a very few that got a personal recognition by the commander for flight and academic excellence with a certificate & picture of his plane in a nice folder. We happened to be visiting and so were invited to this small private meeting with the commander. It was later followed up with a letter of recognition. We also got a letter from his commander when he started his T-45 training and it explained the rigors of the upcoming training.

Congrats Leslie and Mamajoey! It's a lovely day in GA and we're heading out later today for the GA N4Ms (in the greater Atlanta area) picnic! Y'all have a great day now.

Congrats to you Mamajoey. I imagine that there will be some spirited conversations between your Navy son and AF daughter. My husband is an AF brat so he and Mike get into some spirited conversations. Dad did admit ( and he said he would only say it once) that the Blue Angels were better than the Thuderbirds. Have fun at the winging!!!!

Mamajoey ... I and understand your dilemma. Being in multiple places with multiple kids. I can't count the number of times my husband and I had to "divide and conquer" and take lots of pictures and movies to share.

Congrats to all and everything going on. So much keeps happening with all these kids.
