I have had people e-mail me a picture from a cookbook and details of the rules for wives. Then I realized I had a similiar cookbook on my shelves that someone gave my husband when he first started being a sous chef in the early 80's. I just came upon it. Its called, not by bread alone.

And when would you think it was published? in the 30's, forties?
NO - 1974!!!!! Signal Mtn. TN. We went there oodles of times to see all the civil war stuff.
anyhow, its called the 10 commandments for wives and how to preserve a husband. When I get time, I'll copy it.

Hi Becky! Connie, I just went and bought 72 $1.00 videos of old WWII movies and such. They are not guaranteed to be of great quality but it was worth the risk. I'm going to take them to my dads and let him watch them and talk to me about stuff and I'm gonna write it down this time. They don't always have everything in our history books you know!!!
Have you all seen the new pictures posted under family!!!
AND if you go to facebook, you can find LOTS of old Navy posters....
PS. I have an old cookbook from Signal Mtn. TN, you know, the kind that tells women how to treat their men, have dinner ready for them, keep the noisy kids away from him, have a drink ready for him to relax, etc. :-0

I came upon this site when (I have told some of you this story already) a friend from our Texas Chef's association (Sherry) told me her father was an FC, and she personally goes on mentoring cruises to the culinary specialists. CS!
Her dad is Bertram E. Carlson and she has gone on about 4 carriers. She is a Pastry Chef and has her own business in Dallas.

You can go here and look people up!!!

I enjoyed going to that page Linda. I just spoke with my dad this week-end and he shared MORE TRUE stories about history. This time it was about Lindberg and his participation (un-beknownst to FDR) in the South Pacific with Allison aircraft, etc. Its great to hear what really happened - very exciting. I shared your info below about the periscope with my brothers and dad. They loved the story.

Wow, Linda, I had to re-read your post, there is so much there to absorb! Do you have any pictures bestowed upon you that you can download here?
Paige, I think you've broke the record for serving in the Navy generational wise. 4 generations. How does Billy feel about that? He's making history in your family!

Yes, I do. My dad always says he designed more Navy planes than the Army. He wears the Army Air Corps hat when he goes anywhere and is quick to point that out to my Navy Mom friends, LOL. He was in Wichita, Boeing, St. Louis, Lockheed Martin, McDonnell, and finally Bell Helicopter. Now my brother works at LM too. It could even include derigibles, couldn't it? (spelling)
You just went to SD??? I am SO Jealous. thats where Patrick is. Arn't you in AZ?

Thats true, if we don't do it now - we have to get it down because even as close as my parents are, we are losing stories and information. Its great to compile it. Please post the Navy days pictures etc when you get them, and have a chance.

Hi, Teresa! Sure was great meeting you! We try to stay on top of the military channel and Ntl Geo., and some things have popped up on the History and Discovery channel. Thats awesome about the flag, didn't hear that one! Well, I've been making videos of my parents and family and setting it to music. I put "Boogie woogie bugle boy" at the part with both sides of the family in uniforms..." Then for my parents wedding (both in uniforms, mom was a Rosie the Riveter) I put that song Apple Blossom Time - "What a wonderful wedding it will be, what a wonderful day for you and me, church bells will chime, you will be mine, in apple blossom time..... I'm such a nostalgic!!
