For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My sailor went through prototype in SC last year graduated in March. There wasn't any delays at that time in GC but the sailors in NY that started at the same time didn't graduate until almost six months after because of the many delays. My son skipped prototype graduation and came straight home.

Doesn't matter if Prototype is in NY or SC. There's always delays. Ours was in SC, and graduation was great. (We lived in IL at the time.)
Guess we are about 3 hrs from Orlando. Boy Wonder, our sailor finally made shore duty after about 8 yrs, up in CT.
Fire Controlman is good.

Been part of this group for a while. Always following. I'm in Orlando. My son's been in for nearly 3 years. He's a machinist mate nuclear, MMN. Anyone in Orlando?

I am in Winter Haven area, my son is currently in A School in GL.

He should learn more or can ask if his recruiter knows. He could be a skittle (colored shirts on deck) and help direct or fuel; he could be a mechanic; and you would know if he Were to be part of the crew. Mine is submarines, so it's a whole different world and I don't know much about airmen. (My Dad was in the Army Air Force & Air Force years ago.)

All i really know and not sure i understand is he is an airman, im not sure he even really understands. They go through the process so fast at MEPS when they get sworn in lol

I don't think it gets any easier just because you've had "practice" towards the empty nest. Does your recruit know what rate/job he's going towards? I'm quite a bit north of you. We hope to have a packing party next year in FL through Molly's Adopt a Sailor group. They are great fun.

Hi, im in Saint Petersburg my son ships out for basic Jan 6th . I should be used to my babies leavin the nest, my oldest has been out of the home for 3 years doing his own thing but im not. The nerves are on end and the emotions are at an all time high I am so very proud of my middle child taking this huge leap into life but i am not ready for him to leave!!
